In the "Competitions" sub forum - it's done in the style of a regular thread, like the weekly compo used to be before we got this swanky new site with a dedicated gallery feature...

Thanks hefty1. Is there some technical reason why Fortnightly is not treated the same as Weekly?

The Weekly competition was 'born' here in the Forum but when the website was totally revamped, the 'powers that be' moved it to the Gallery area.

The fortnightly competiton is an attempt to regain the 'feel' of the original weekly competition and it also forces people to go out and take a specific photograph, rather than just trawl through their archives.

This probably does not make any sense

As Hyram says, the main difference (other than the timescale) between the weekly and the fortnightly competitions is that the fortnightly one requires you to take your entry during the period the competition is "live", the weekly one tends to attract photos from the archives (although there's nothing stopping anybody shooting something new).

When wholesale changes were made to the look and feel of this forum earlier in the year, the weekly competition was moved to the new gallery section. But many who had been entering regularly stopped doing so as they either disliked the new format or they didn't ever look at the gallery part of the site so tended to forget there was a competition going on.

So there's no technical reason the fortnightly competition isn't in the gallery, rather it's for reasons of nostalgia.

The fortnightly competition could quite happily be in the Gallery section, but no-one is forcing anyone to make such a move.

Just create a new competition in the gallery competitions ection if you decide to take that route.

Apart from nostalgia, there's no particular reason to use the posting in the forum route is there?

I joined Pentax User about the time the weekly competiton went into the Gallery consequently have never entered a competition in the Forum. I know there was a lot of chat about it in the summer and some of the old hands didn't like the new format. Personallly I think sending pictures to the Forum seems far too complicated while entering in the Gallery is a simple matter. I'm a simple sort of person so I much prefer the Gallery.

i'm with david. why join some other system to post pictures in the forum when you can put them straight into the gallery. i know now i had seen the entries for the fortnightly competition, but did not realise they were a complete list because of the "chat" posts among them.

I'm with David too, it seems hard to find a 'way in' to the fortnighly comp. Perhaps the gallery could have a link to the fortnightly comp?

I think the biggest difference is that in the forum you get to see the entries full size one after the other and it was felt that was 'a good thing'.

I prefer the forum home but would go with the flow.

It would be nice to have more entries in this time limited competition and I guess any barrier to entry is a bad thing. That said it's not hard to locate the topic and see the entries.
