Wheels off

In March 1968 Corgi introduced a gimmick on a few of their toy cars where the wheels could be removed by lowering a golden jack. I think there were only 4 different models with these removable wheels. The fad only lasted a couple of years when Corgi was forced to introduce Wizzwheels and rocket-wheels to remain competitive.
This image is of a Corgi (No.341) Mini Marcos 850GT from 1968 with it's front wheels jacked-up and removed. The model was withdrawn in 1970.
The picture is made up of a focus stack of 6 images shot on our dining room table under a couple of lights. The background is some green wrapping paper and the ground surface is an up-turned table mat.
Just bear in mind that the model is only 86mm in length and the wheels are only 12.5mm in diameter.
It is a prized member of my small collection of Corgi & Dinky toys.
All 6 images were shot using a Pentax K-5 and the Samsung equivalent of the DFA100 macro.
1/15th sec, F7.1 & ISO200.
The focus stack was processed using CombineZP and PSE10 has been used to remove some of the signs of age and resize the image.
All 6 images were shot on 2nd January 2012 at around midday.

Not knowing it was going to snow, I set my dying roses outside to toss away and forgot about them. Imagine my surprise in the morning when I looked outside and saw the beautiful red being dusted with the white...I ran for my camera. Nice way to bring in the new year!

Part of a much larger tribute to Vaclav Havel on the main square, by the town hall in Ceske Budejovice. The outpouring of emotion here was something not usual for Czechs and probably comparable to Diana.
Taken with SMC M 50mm manual focus at ISO 1600 f2.8 i think!

Good day to all out there in Pentax Land, and welcome to some over due judging. I am really not sure, but am forced to believe that this site has a vandetta against my computer.
GlynM - Wheels Off : What a clear and sharp picture, especially for such a small ride. The gloss of the red against the green background really pronounces the care this small piece of the past has received. Unfortunately as impressive as this work is, it strays a bit from the rules as I can see the whole car and if not knowing the topic, would assume the car was the main subject, not the wheels. That being said this submission is certainly up to the standard I have come to expect and enjoy from you, Glyn.
JudithAnn - Bits of winter on pieces of summer : A lovely shot of a great oxymoron in nature. The softness of the fine snow on the velvet petals is visible, and brings a feeling of freshness that only a dusting of winter white can bring... But like Glyns photo I feel I can see a "bit" too much in the whole of the rose to qualify this entry according to the rules set. The clearness of each flake makes me want to have this as a contender but I must stick to my guns and love it or not.
alexfilipov - Gunsmithing : This is exactly what I was looking for. I love the way my eye doesn't question the arrangement of items in this close up. It looks like a difficult hobby and I find myself wondering at the true size of the bits surrounding the muzzle. The graining of the photo suggests the roughness (in purpose) of the gun itself, while the background of specs on paper only add to the authenticity, rather the clutter, of the picture. Well presented.
geordie01 - Half Time : Clever title for a bang on photo. Extremely detailed and sharp. I love the lighting and the way the gold was captured sans too much reflection. The black background was a perfect choice for this cropped watch, and speaks of the richness this time piece shows. All the numbers and markings are clear as well as the texture on the dials . This would be a stellar add photo for the watch company to print in a Magazine. Lovely watch, even lovelier shot.

Many thanks to RPLSF for another interesting subject and your great set of comments and judging.
Congratulations to georgie01 for a very nice winning presentation and alexfilipov for 2nd place.
I also loved Judith's unusual but brilliant take on the subject.
I knew I had not met the complete requirements for the competition but I just could not resist showing off the whole object .

dannyh I apologise for not judging your entry. I have been having problems with my computer for a few weeks now. When I click on a link I get an "diagnos connection problem" message. Hi guys thanks for the win RPSLF and congrats to the folks who entered, i will think of a subject for the next competition i would hate to see this comp disappear due to lack of interest as i have found it really gets you thinking and there seems to be quite a few new forum members so come on and get shooting and post your results in the comp, it is a great way to learn.
I have an idea for the next subject but i will have to check if has been done before so i will post it tomorrow morning as i have just got in.

Be it through a crop, composition, or close up, I am looking for pictures of a part or piece of something larger. It could be a part of the body, the handle of a cup, or the cog in a watch, the possible subjects are endless! The photo may be macro or not, mysterious or obvious. It may not be the whole of something regardless how small.
I will be judging on composition ie. does the "bit" hold its own as the main subject, after that on the technicality and visual appeal. All matters of manipulation are welcome. So put your thinking caps on and show me your "Bits & Pieces"
