For sale Pentax DA * 12-24 mm

Posted 01/03/2009 - 15:12 Link
I have a pentax DA * 12-24 mm for sale.
The lens was brought five weeks ago with a DA 16-50mm.I have noticed that the DA 16-50 mm stays most of the time on k20D and 12-24 not being used, that is the reason it is here for sale.
Lens was only used indoor/garden to test and compare the 16-24mm range with DA 16-50 mm.Comes with original box, both end caps and a hood.
Looking for around £440 ,UK P&P included in the price.
Please PM.
Thanks for looking

I tried selling one of these on here before Christmas - ended up dropping to £350 and still no takers. Put it on eBay last week and it finally fetched £413.00 (of which quite a bit was swallowed by eBay / PayPal fees).

I have to say that I think £440 is a bit optimistic to be honest but good luck anyway!

I agree with you about the share ebay takes for selling but it is still a good place to sell photography gears. That would be the last option for me.

Has it got the bar code still attached or did you cut the box for the cashback?

Hi David,
The lens is available. I am preparing photos/description for Ebay sale. If no offers from this forum it would go on ebay this weekend.

I have dropped the lens price to £410 including P+P in UK via royal mail recorded delivery.

This is in mint condition, hardly used as It was brought in late January 2009.

Finally convinced myself to keep the DA 16-50 F 2.8 which I carry and use regularly with K20D but DA 12-24 mm has to go as the difference at wide end between two lenses is 4 mm.
Price is reduced to £375 which includes special delivery in UK.

I wish I could buy it at that price but I have a Sigma 10-20 and for a long time I used it all the time. I also have a Tamron 17-50 and would really miss the extra range the wider lens gives, that last 4mm makes a massive difference to the perspectives you can achieve.

Having looked at your castle samples I'd suggest you could get much, much closer to the subject and get far more dramatic perspectives at 12mm. And the 24mm end is a good walk about length while 20 always seems a tad wide. Have you played with the 12mm end where you have clouds in a blue sky - you can expect to get a great 'streaming' effect as the clouds seem to burst over your head.

So what I'm saying is keep it! Use it! Grow to love it! I'd have a very wide lens in preference to a telephoto any day of the week and the lenses you have cover a great range and I'll bet you regret selling it in pretty short order!

One small point - it isn't a * lens.

I have the Sigma 10-20, and whilst I don't use it much I am not sure I want to sell it until I have really played with it and decided if it is for me or not.
Unless you really need the money hang on to the lens and spend some time playing with it. Get up close to buildings and see what you get. If after playing with it some more you are sure you will never use it then sell it.
It isn't meant to be a lens which lives on the camera, it is more specialised than that.

My 10-20 lived on the camera for ages and I learned first to love it and second how to use it and get good results (well what I think are good) which isn't as easy as it could be.

Mike, yes I think that is the way to learn to love (or hate) these wide lenses, but having done so it's not a lens I would leave on my camera most of the time I suspect.

Don't sell your 10-20mm gwyn.I have one they are awesome for reflections. But for my main lens for lanscapes i use an 18-50mm.Don't use the 10-20mm much but wouldnt dream of selling it.When the conditions are right it sings

Jigger Vikram you have a 12mm lens there and none of those shots use less than 19mm unless I have misunderstood the EXIF data!

Turn it to 12mm and don't move it at all. Then take 100 photographs and make sure the subject fills the frame then you'll see what a lens like this can do.

If you look at the seaside shots on my flickr page (mostly on page 2) you'll see how sometimes it looks quite normal but other times it's just mad. The shot of the chain and yellow buoy had the lens so close to the end that I had to lean to avoid my feet and shadow. OK it may well be a rotten photo but it does show what such a short lens can do!

In my opinion you're using it for the wrong subjects in the wrong way but of course I fully respect your choices and accept I may well be wrong - I'm simply encouraging you to use the potential of the lens before you part with it!

While my 10-20 no longer lives on the body I still love it and have plans for it during the summer!
