I have just received a Pentax FA 28-70 f4 al lens i purchased from ebay advertised as only used a couple of times.
I attached it to my camera and it looks like i am looking through a fog. What could be the problem with it, i have tried my own lenses on the camera which are fine.Would the sender have known about this?

What do you mean by fog? Is the image out of focus, is the lens focusing? Presumably there is nothing amiss when you look through the lens by eye? Have you tried focussing manually?

hi
thanks for the reply
when i look through the viewfinder it is like looking through a fog a grey covering. The camera does seem to be focussing but the image is foggy when looking at the lcd on the rear. All my other lenses are fine and clear.
I havent looked through the lens by eye.

Sounds like you have a duff lens. I've got the same one and
it has a good reputation. It must be visible looking at the
lens elements.

I'd be tempted to try leaving it in the airing cupboard for a few days.

I have now taken an image with this lens and it is exactly as it looks through the viewfinder.

It must have something inside the lens to come out like that.

Ignore my previous post about it having a good reputation, that applied to film cameras. Just out of curiosity I've tried a few shots on a K10D with mine which is in mint condition. The shots weren't all that good and I wouldn't use this lens for digital. They were about the quality that you would get off a 5 megapixel camera.

If I were you I'd try to get a refund and forget all about this particular lens.
