Focus Screen for the K20D

Posted 17/03/2013 - 18:39 Link
Hi,
I am searching for a new focusing screen for my K20D and there seems to be a world shortage. Does anybody out there have any ideas where I can get one? Also, is it worth changing the original screen for a split screen type and are the OEM versions any good?

Thanks

Having tried a split screen one I eventually settled on the Pentax grid one. Given that the K20 is getting on a bit now, eBay might be the best place

Thanks for this Gartmore,
The only ones I can see on Ebay are from abroad, incurring all manner of tax. Are you aware of any available in the UK? I see some non Pentax screens for about £15. Are you aware if these non Pentax ones are any good?

Why don't you give SRS a call, they may have stock that isn't listed on their web site.

The advantage of genuine Pentax ones is that they come in a case and have the correct, essential IMO, removal tool.

One option is the Katzeye screen - still one of the best on the market. I had one on my K20D and was very pleased with it. They are not cheap but are good quality and easy to fit

Import duties are not massive on an item costing this amount.

Or if you want the original from a UK company (although I have not heard of them and it may be worth researching them a bit before buying:

Before getting a Katzeye from a forum member I used a Pentax LL80 screen which I liked because of it's thirds markings. link link

I have a Katzeye screen on my K20, with the bright coating - expensive but makes manual focusing very easy. A downside is that it interferes with the metering - particularly on 'spot.'

Or you can try www.focusingscreen.com as they have good replacement screens too.

I use the S-Type screen on my K5
