I've recently bought a DS Pentax and was wondering if I'm able to use my old Minolta flash gun. It's powerfu.. Will I blow the electronics of the camera?

All normal portable and studio flash units should be fine, but if your Minolta is dedicated to that marque all the enhanced functions will be lost. I would use either a non-deicated or a Pentax-dedicated flash unit, or studio flash. Just a matter of convenience and compatibility.

To use studio flash or off camera flash a Hot Shoe Adapter F will be needed, and I'm just about to order one myself!
Best regards, John

Thank you, John
I have used the Minolta flash after reading your advice (with some trepidation!)

I'm only able to use the flash with the camera on manual. The aperture defaults to F8 which is no problem with this flash. A bit annoying, but for the price of the Pentax DS you can't have everything.

Thanks again

I've since read the book (as a last resort)and found that I can manually change the aperture via the A/V button and the wheel. I'm very impressed with this camera. Its simplicity of use is a real joy. Forget the prosumerconsumer labels, with a good quality lens it will do for the majority of users.

Cheers
Tony
