Flash advice

I don't think I'll be mounting MY 283 on my K10D, it's the one I was refering to above. Guess mine must be an early one!

Thanks for all the replies folks.
Well, I won't risk using my flash gun. Any advice on a "cheap" flash suitable for a beginner on a limited budget.

Also, getting back to my original post. Is the failure of the onboard flash a regular thing (ist DL) , or was it just coincidence I came across a lot like this when looking for mine?

hard to beat the viv 285.
no ttl or p-ttl.
but the range of auto and manual modes, combined with a peantu slave, and or wireless radio slave, makes for a very versitile unit.
Fired many shots. Didn't kill anything.
