If you set the camera in wireless mode, you just put the flash to light your subject from the side. Then, by looking at the shadows, you can easily see what flash is illuminating your subject. If you don't see a shadow the opposite side of where the flash was set, then it needs to be "re-chipped". Pretty straightforward.

Yes flash is definitely not firing during exposure: I can point the flash directly at the camera and can see from the photo the flash did not fire. So where do I go from here? "Re-chipped"? Does this mean sending it off to sigma?

Yes it means sending it back to Sigma's distributor. If service in your part of the world is like the one in Canada, it should take less than a week. Your dealer can probably handle the thing for you if you don't know how to proceed (mine does). If you send it back yourself (no big deal), just write on a piece of paper what you need done AND the return address and send it to the distributor where you are (the Canadian distributor does fix it with no charge, so I guess it should be the same for you).

did you check your camera settings? on the k10 to use an off camera flash in wireless p-ttl mode requires setting the flash mode in the camera body to wireless, and making sure the flash and body are first attached, and set to the same channel...then it works...there may be a custom function setting in the menu to activate using your internal flash in wireless mode....
I think there's a sticky with directions, but you'll have to do some guesswork to get it on the samsung/sunpak

Fired many shots. Didn't kill anything.

You should also give a look at the firmware on your camera. The original firmware did not support the wireless mode.

Sigma confirmed that the flash needs rechipped. They have quoted £34. I was under the impression the re-chipping was a free service. Can anybody confirm?
edit: If you provide proof of purchase its free otherwise you must pay!
Thanks

This is why some of us are a little bit loath to commend Sigma.

I understand that the firmware may need to be updated on the flash unit. Does anybody know how I can check if this is the case?
If there is a more appropriate forum please let me know.
Thanks in advance
