Fixing a busted lens

I have recently acquired a Pentax-M 1.7 50mm. It was a freebie and seems OK, apart from the front filter ring, which is loose and flapping about.

I'd like to have a go at fixing it to use for flash portraiture on my K200D.

Anyone know how to get these to bits (in a way that I can get it back together again)?

If I remember correctly, you need a rubber bezel removing tool to twist the bezel off (the round plate that shows the lens data and sits between the glass and the filter thread). The filter threaded shroud I believe is held in place by a few screws. Tighten the screws and refit the bezel.

I think it should be as simple as that . . . but it might not be.

The lens I fixed was a SMCP-A 50mm 1:1.7 and might be a bit different to yours.

The rubber tools used for removing bezels aren't exactly thick on the ground and probably not worth buying for a one-off job, however, if you have a walking stick (or similar) to hand you can usually improvise by using its rubber foot.

Good luck!

I made one of those rubber removal tools by modifying a large rubber bung (stopper) and it worked ok.

Sdeve I have sent you a PM.

I posted a how-to a while back, using a rubber pipe fitting from a hardware store...costs like $2.00
Fired many shots. Didn't kill anything.
