Such a strong image, Kris, both visually and emotionally.
Best wishes,

Andrew

That's very good indeed, firstly because of the pathos of the image and secondly because of the expert handling of widely contrasting lighting conditions. Its a master class lesson in black and white photography.

Kris, no3 is an exceptional shot, technically excellent full of detail and emotionally powerful as others have already said.

No.1 is an absolute corker, had me looking all round it working out what was going on. Of the grave I like the warmth of the second version, As for the pony the detail is superb, the visible snow between is feet just adds to the overall cold feel of the shot.

Thanks all. I wasn't really intending to post No. 3 but I got home from work very late last night so it was a bit of a snap decision. I'm always surprised that images I really like often don't meet much acclaim, whereas other images I hardly think twice about are popular!

One advantage of shooting black and white film is that the response curve is S-shaped so it is much harder to completely blow-out hightlights or completely black-out shadows than it is with digital. I do like the rather forlorn aspect of that image, however.

Now to ponder No. 4.

Best wishes, Kris.

I think this suits the square format and I like the composition. With the bridge sweeping away from the corner and going away to nothing, it's a very strong shape. On my monitor it is very dark though.

This just works in all the right areas.

The ripples suggest you were aboard a ferry?

The backdrop is simply splendid and offers comparison between natural giants and the manmade giant trying to stretch as high.

It basically shouts out "why would you ever shoot in colour".

Interesting this one, at first I thought ah, another nice 'bridge disappearing into the distance' shot but as I scrolled down, the ripples suddenly elevated it above the usual shot of this type.

Not dark on my monitor by the way

Yes a good bridge shot but then those ripples make it something special adding balance and interest.
Best wishes,

Andrew

Another great shot Kris. The square format works well with this and the contrast is good. As with the comments of others, the ripples, whether wanted or not, add extra interest.

x 2 to pretty much all the above.

Very atmospheric, Kris, and probably my favourite of your four shots to date.

Your last two are stunners - full of character, class and interest. Both scream "print me, large". I'd pay good money to have the third on a block mount. Looking forward to your final addition.
