Thanks everyone. Quite pleased with that image. I wasn't too sure about the dark area at the top and i did crop it to see but it works better with it included.
Nice when an image opportunity pops up you weren't expecting and it works out. Quite often the planned photo trips never pan out as hoped.

Gosh on no 4 and it's only Tuesday!

No 1: I think the top of that the photo as a piano works well, but feel that your original shot has a gap in the middle that makes everything squished round the edge of the frame.

No 2: I like a lot there's a serenity and gentleness to the scene and your idea of the long exposure to smooth the water works. Tbh until I read the comments I hadn't noticed the chimney in the reflection was a bit cropped.

No3: I'm not sure of there's a tog near me who has a gallery of similar work and I think this has put me off this style. Its well composed and shot just not my cup of tea.

No4: is really well spotted and i really like the contrast between the complimentary colours, the plant sillouete and the inky blackness. Tbh, in agree with some comments I think a slight crop from the top might help it.

Looking forward to seeing more of your work on here. All 4 to date are very good.

Lenny, many thanks for the honest critique of all the photos, much appreciated. I know what you mean about not liking a certain style, even if it appears technically correct. I find i have the same problem with a lot of street photography. Perhaps i've just seen 10 too many images of a tramp pushing a trolley or Big Issue man but they leave me stone cold, regardless of how good they are technically.

Was all set to post my next image, another fresh image taken yesterday at Danebury Hill Fort. Resized it ready for upload, At the last moment i suddenly realised i had taken it with the Fuji....lol Epic fail. So will post an historic photo for No 5. Bare with me while i find the one.

I forgot all about this one until i just saw it in my PPG album. Was quite pleased with it at the time, and still am. I moved around quite a lot to cut out the clutter and find the best composition that worked for me. I recently re-took this shot with my Fuji but the result didn't work as well. So doubly happy i found the better composition first time round.

Edit: just cropped the original image, chopped off some of the tracks at the bottom.

I think that's probably my pick of the bunch, Russ.

Great colours, terrific exposure control and a lovely composition.

Excellent mood in this shot. The eyes are drawn up into the image along the lines.

I must admit, i though the Haven photo was my top trump image but i agree, the Lakeside Railway is my favourite. Thought i would show the original image before i decided to crop off the bottom. Decided there was too much track.

No 5 has a very striking composition and nice tones. Definitely prefer the cropped version. A good way to end your set.

A good way to finish indeed Stephen. Thanks everyone for the thumbs up. Although wish i hadn't posted image No 1, it detracts from the rest of the set and i think i have a better image to post....

I will echo all of the positive comments about No5 ... It's my favourite! There's not many images that I find make effective use of magenta tones, but you've done it here with great success.

Don't worry about the first photo, or any of them really ... No one expects us amateurs to produce five shots in a row that are equally high in standards or appeal. You've given us some very good photographs that show off your style and offer insight into the locations and conditions you like to shoot in ... That's a job well done!

A very fine set for your 5-in-a-row Russ.
#1: I prefer your original post rather than the cropped version, the detail in the bottom part of the frame adds a solid foundation for the picture. The flared light, top, is a weakness and might benefit from a marginal crop in that area, to just above the more solid line of trees.
#2: An attractive scene and I like the reflections in the motion blurred water.
#3: My favourite of the set, without any doubt. I love the solid silhouettes against the gorgeous colour.
#4: Another silhouette picture, perhaps the weakest one for me but still a competent picture.
#5: My second favourite with wonderful graphic lines and, as has already been noted, a wonderful use of magenta to very good effect. I prefer your cropped version, shown first.
Its a set to be proud of and has attracted favourable comments all round with some useful advice too.

Probably my pick of the bunch too, an excellent shot.

The colours are superb, the reflection in the track lifts the foreground, and the overall composition with the lead in lines and tree as the anchor is spot on.

Keep posting in the gallery, like to see more of your work, there's some excellent shots in your 5, #4 for me was a close 2nd.

Number 5 really is very good, I remember seeing this on the Gallery or perhaps in a previous Forum post. Colours, composition, exposure, lead-in are all first rate and it combines together to make a winning image.
