Five in a row - Russ

The long exposure is used to good effect here. A little bit more in the foreground would show the full reflection but maybe that wasn't possible without getting a good soaking ?!

I like this shot. It gives a different and unusual perspective on a village that suffers from tourist camera overload !

Not sure about the flowing water it seems to be too smoothed out.

The colours, especially in the sky are really nice and saturated (I think that's the right word)

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I think this is why i've never done this before, i knew my images weren't really up to much. Certainly not up to the standard of the members here.
But its positive. I can see i'm not seeing the details right, the composition or the light. Back to the drawing i think.

The first two were a bit of a bust, see if i can redeem myself with a third. See what you think. Its Titchfield Haven near Fareham. Photographed from the road. I used my old K30 with kit lens 18-55. It's pre-sunrise.

Russ you are being far too hard on yourself, you take good pictures. There is nothing seriously wrong with any of them. I don't think any yet needed major adjustments. I like the latest one too, good colours and composition. Fine just as it is.

Absolutely! Sorry I've joined in late, but all 3 offer a lot. No 1 was always going to be a challenge as there's so many ways to go with it. I liked the blown effect of the original, it gave a sense of the power of the sun. No 2 has a special soft tone and I especially like the gentle blues in the sky. There's a peace and serenity to it. No 3 is the best so far, I love the misty atmosphere and colours, a very original and well photographed image.

2 and 3 are both very good images and appeal to me a lot. 3 is probably the best so far but I also like the way in number 2 you have used the long exposure in a creative and unusual way that not many would have thought of.

Keep them coming and don't criticise yourself as the shots are good and very worthy of being shown on here.

I was going to wait until Monday before offering comments. (I'd best get in there quick before you've posted, been & gone).

I have no issues what so ever with image #1. It's not a jump of the page image but it is a good photograph.

Image #2 caught my eye and I like it a lot. The colours are just great and I smiled to myself when I looked at the parallel right side banking (not that I tend to do this).

Image #3 is a cracker IMO.

You do yourself an injustice Russ. Images aren't up to much!!

All you have achieved here is that you have raised the question that will have forum members wondering why you have not posted images like these before.

Best regards

I almost missed this as a result of blinking.

I very much like the original version of #1. I appreciate that a few details might be blown in the sunny haze, but that might well be an accurate reflection of the light at that time. The end result is very powerful (and a good reason to get up at daft o'clock and head to the South Downs for reasons other than the Goodwood Revival Meeting).

I appreciate the technical proficiency of #2, although it's not a scene that particularly grabs my attention.

Shot #3 is absolutely marvellous... and underlines once again that we can buy as many lenses as we like, but stellar results remain very achievable with Pentax basics.

Once coffee and croissants have been consumed, I'll take a stroll... and perhaps be able to comment on #4 and '#5 when I return. It's been a whirlwind, Russ, but those first three cover many bases - and do so with considerable panache.

Woa there Russ - time to re-evaluate your view of your own abilities.

Image 1 - I like this image - technically it is not perfect - but there are times when for me - that can actually enhance an image - in this case I like the varied lines and the 'fading in to the distance' effect caused by bright lack of detail towards the back.

Image 2 - As a confirmed water and reflections in images addict - this is my kind of shot. Very easy for me to sit here and say I too would have preferred the reflection to have been a little more complete and have a little more substance - but that is just nit picking. One thing I would say - used correctly - a CPL really helps with this sort of shot.

Image 3 - Stunner - great pastel pallet contrasting with the black and a very nice fade/mist in bands through the shot.

Following comments are personal preference only:

1. Not a big fan of borders - but these really are the 'marmite' of presenting images.

2. On image 3 - I suspect it could look even better if you cropped a couple of inches off the left - just to the left of the straight vertical on the horizon. I suspect this would give a better balance and shape to the image.

Keep them coming Russ - an enjoyable set

Carl

To the party late ...

#1 - This is very well seen. Like it very much. Only change I'd make is crop the sky off the top. Print it and put it on the wall.
#2 - Another excellent shot. I'd try and tweak the verticals. Nothing else
#3 - Hang this on the wall too

You should post pictures more often

My comments are all made as constructive criticism from my perspective. Which I thought was the idea of this thread. I like your photographs please take any comments from the forum as being supportive.

By the way no. 3 is really good.

Three good shots and varied as well. You've little to worry about but remember that you can't please all of the people all of the time. I've given up trying to anticipate people's reactions as some of my favourite images posted on Ephotozine and other sites are often disregarded, whereas others are lauded.

You have to accept that people look for different things in pictures as amateurs we are lucky in being able to simply please ourselves and if anyone else like a shot then that's a bonus.

I wonder if Robert Capa posted his D-Day pictures here then people would say, "oh, very blurred and over-exposed, very grainy too and lacks critical sharpness"!
Best wishes,

Andrew
