Dave, i really do appreciate the comments. About time i posted my images, got some constructive comments and then worked out how to change the way i shoot.

Absolutely! Sorry I've joined in late, but all 3 offer a lot. No 1 was always going to be a challenge as there's so many ways to go with it. I liked the blown effect of the original, it gave a sense of the power of the sun. No 2 has a special soft tone and I especially like the gentle blues in the sky. There's a peace and serenity to it. No 3 is the best so far, I love the misty atmosphere and colours, a very original and well photographed image.

I can see the problems with No1 now its been pointed out. A revisit to that spot is called for, which is what's all about after all.
No2 i like but i can see people are saying. The chopped chimney in the reflection is now highly annoying.....why didn't i spot that......grrrrr
No3 is the best i've taken to date.... What grates though is i took that image in 2013 and haven't surpassed it since. That is slightly disheartening. Everyone wants to improve and when your best image is two years old, that doesn't feel like progress.

Image no 4 - i should have started today, so somehow will have to string this out for the week now. Is it okay to post 6 images to make the week last?
Instead of doing a shot i dislike, going to post a fresh image taken today. Haven't had a chance to do anything with it yet. So interesting to get some feedback.
As with the image in the HDR thread, this was taken this morning on my walk to work. I took a detour through Winnall Moors, Winchester. The sunrise didn't pan out again but seemed quite pleasant anyway. Its a much tighter crop than the HDR, just concentrating on the reflections, the ripples and the colour.
I had no tripod with me, or filters for that matter. So smoothing out the water for a clearer reflection was out. But as it is, i think that would have ruined the image anyway.
I appreciate honest comments (if its total pants maybe soften the blow a little ).

It's not 'total pants' Russ, it's excellent and I've already commented on it in the Gallery. I love the silhouetted plants and the deep colours of the reflection. I also like the dark area at the top and I think to increase the exposure on this one would have been counter-productive, it is 'just right' as it is.

Agreed, the vignette effect is great, the composition works well and the hint of colour in the reflection lift the photo nicely.
Your shots show an good sense for light and lighting, which is a great asset for any photographer.
Nice to see Winnall Moors feature, I used to live just the other side of the park, and often went for walks at twilight in the nature reserve. Would regularly see water voles and Daubenton's bats there, as well as pipistrelles. In spring it was full of reed and sedge warblers, and thus also cuckoos, often used to see them flying over. Also saw native crayfish there, as well as once a huge pike( I mean I saw it once, not that it was a formerly large fish reduced in stature) The very northern boundary of the reserve is the old trackbed of the Didcot, Newbury and Southampton Railway that used to run to Chesil Steet station (where the car park now is)
Anywy, I digress, but I would love to see more of your shots at Winnall!

A good strong silhouette with rich colour as well. Not a hint of underwear to be seen!

Certainly not pants - this is a photo many of us would have been proud to take!
They are all good Russ; don't keep putting yourself down and I can see why no3 is a favourite! It would look nice large and framed on a wall

Like the idea behind #4. I might have been tempted to crop away a little of the darkness at the top - and can't make up my mind whether I'd prefer it without the plant silhouettes – but the reflected light is love;y.

This is a very good picture, the silhouettes and reflected colours work well. IMO, long exposures of water are in danger of becoming a cliché, I see it everywhere. I like the ripples caught as is, they can look good too. I'm undecided about cropping the top, the blackness emphasises the early morning feel. Overall, an image worthy of posting.

I'm normally in favour of revealing the details buried inside shadow areas, but here (no4) I think you've made just the right judgement in leaving quite firm black tones ... This works because the water itself and the reflections are deep toned, so it all worked very well together. A little cropping as suggested above would be ok also, really personal choice. Another great shot!

I like this shot Russ. I always associate 'Winnal' with horrendous queues on the A34 leading up to the aforesaid roundabout ! It's nice to know there is also an area of beauty and you have captured it to perfection. Well done

Three good shots and varied as well. You've little to worry about but remember that you can't please all of the people all of the time. I've given up trying to anticipate people's reactions as some of my favourite images posted on Ephotozine and other sites are often disregarded, whereas others are lauded.
You have to accept that people look for different things in pictures as amateurs we are lucky in being able to simply please ourselves and if anyone else like a shot then that's a bonus.
I wonder if Robert Capa posted his D-Day pictures here then people would say, "oh, very blurred and over-exposed, very grainy too and lacks critical sharpness"!
Please everyone do not refrain from posting what you think, it will do me good to hear different views. I can't move forward if i don't know where i'm going wrong.
