First Outing with the Bigma

Nice photos. I was planning on getting this lens before they hiked the price up above £1000. I must take the 150-500mm to the zoo....

Roy I tried to keep them between F8 and 5.6 but I had to up the ISO to 800 so lost a little bit of sharpness but I can live with it. Jack

But if you check any weather forecast for Murcia, they show a high of 31 degrees. Who are they kidding?

We've been confined to barracks (y la piscina) today due to the heat.

Your images are really good & sharp and very well taken.

They go against a review I read about the Bigma, it said that images were soft at the edges at the longer end, I think it was from 400-500mm.

Do you or anyone else find that this is the case? This is what prevented me from buying it in the first place. I haven't actually tried one out, saying that, I haven't even seen one. Compared to the Sigma 150-500mm, are they bigger or are they just bigger in diameter?

I am still tempted in getting one

Very good images and congratulations with the Bigma. Had mine since 2004 and I smiled when you mentioned the heat. It gets down to 38'C at night here in Doha at the moment, 45'C in the afternoon. I use long glass for golf competitions and cricket out here and without shade, the lens will hit 65'C plus, as will the camera!
As you say, it does atract attention, don't be pointing it at uniforms in the UK.

Another from the Zoo, this time with the settings, Paul I think the lens is a bit bigger and heavier than the 150/500 it does weigh 1.8 kilos, I think the photos would have been a little sharper had I used my monopod though, Jack.

Love the shots - I was in SRS a couple of days ago and tried out the 150-500 - as you say these big lenses are heavy - guess the shake reduction helps - I'll have to get one of these lenses sometime.
As Roy aske, would love to know the f number, speed and focal length of the photos.
Think I like the Meercat best but I also like the Gorilla with his arm casually resting on the log.

Just for you John, Gorilla F8, ISO400, 1/60th, 270mm, it was one of the first shots so was trying to see what I could get away with, I used a lot of different settings to see what came out the best.
The Meercat F11, ISO800, 1/1000th, 190mm,
The Tiger, F6.7, ISO800 1/90th, 500mm, all auto WB and all aperture priority hope that helps, Jack.

Yes it does Jack - It's interesting to see that some of your shots I could have taken with my Pentax 18-250.
I haven't 'done' a zoo before - may have a go with my 'little' 18-250!
It will be a while before I can afford the 150-500 - I've just splashed out on the K7 - the manual has 328 pages - help!
