Right then, me and the family are off down to London for a few days soon. I'm thinking of getting either a K01 or a Q and cant decide. It will be used by every one, my 2 sons(8+11) and the wife. I like the K01 and the fact that its K mount is a real bonus. I love the little Q, its built like a jewel and I'm sure I'll love it.
Anyone own both? I just cant make up my mind!!

I bought a Q for my trip to Tanzania and I was very pleasantly surprised with the image quality, not that far from DSLR quality.
As you say, the build quality is superb and it's full of genuinely useful features, also.... it's just SO neat! (I have the white one)

Don't have the K01....to me it's just ugly, although I've not seen one 'in the flesh'

You won't be disappointed with the Q and I'm sure you're family will love it!

Michael

The Q is loved by all here
The question "Where's the Q?" is very frequently asked... usually one of the boys has it!

It's just sooo cute! LOL!
(Don't have the K01, but currently K5IIs, K10D, *istDs, *istD, and have had everything in between :shock

Everyone mostly uses the 5-15mm standard zoom. I really like the prime... and wouldn't mind the 15-45 to go with it.

As a street shooting camera it's incredibly discrete

Thanx guys that's the kind of response I was expecting :O)
I've narrowed it down to either a Q with the 5-15 or a Fuji X10, I'd like to stay loyal but I started many moons ago with Fuji so it counts in my book

Well, much as I love the q, I think the kids would like the brick!

So q for you and K-01 for them

Honestly not sure on the prices of either the Q or the K-01 but I have another option for your boys...

I bought My stepson (9 years old) a *ist ds with a couple of lenses for about £110 about this time last year (he now has a manual 28 and a flash as part of his 'kit') and he loves it... The IQ is still very good and there's plenty of room for him to grow into it...

He started on green mode and currently experiments with Tv & Av when we go out...

He has also set up flash off-camera and taken some great self-portraits!!

I am stunned how quick and accurate the k-01 focuses, and that includes low light.. I had a Pana GF3, Oly Pen and Sony NEX-5 to base it on and it strips all of them to bits, I 100% trust it.. not sure how the Q compares tho.

I have both and they are very different beasts.

The main advantages of the Q are size and looks. It is a very capable camera but if your 2 sons and wife are going to use it they may find the K01 easier.

The advantages of the K01 are in my eyes, same sensor as k5 (far more forgiving than the Q and easier to blur the backgroundd due to DOF, high ISO excellent), same batteries as K7/5, K mount (I see you have a 21, 40 and 70 and although I don't have the 21, the small primes are great on the K01, the 18-55 should be fine with it, I've used the 17-70 on mine with no problems).

You may prefer the Q but I think the kids/wife will find the K01 easier to use.

I recently loaned my eldest (9 years old) my MV with a manual 80-200 lens, most of the day the camera remained on a monopod. He is quite strong, but weight of the kit does need to be taken into consideration.

I am also sure that when he starts using my K7 he is going to want access to a few of my lenses, and probably the one I am using will be his desire!

K-01 is discontinued so why want one of those. There are some very good compact cameras available if "small" is important

Just because a camera is discontinued doesn't mean it is worthless.

I'm sure there are many users on here getting great shots using discontinued gear.

Discontinued is a great time to get a bargain.
