Firefox 'issues'

This was mentioned on another thread, but I'm thinking of ditching firefox and returning to IE, probably equivalent to returning to Canon from Pentax!

I've had enough of text on text, pages not loading properly and generally things in the wrong place.

The latest 'issue' (ie problem) is streaming flash videos at full-screen crashing the computer. This doesn't happen on IE.

Anybody else been through this?

I use IE7 for all other sites and FF for this one, reason being that it's dead easy to clobber the ads. Personally I have had very few problems with it.

No problem using FF here. Sometimes I use Opera but in general FF. None of the issues you mention are experienced by me.

I should say that the video problem has only surfaced on Windows 7.

I didn't want to ask, obviously.

Cant say as I've had any problems either, I much prefer Firefox to IE.

I don't have any problems with FF, you could send feedback to Mozilla. I'm using version 3.6 Beta 3 with XP home.

The IT team use Firefox, so it will work well with this site, but then so do IE7 and IE8.

There are indeed no problems on this site. Maybe the problems with other sites are because I use large text and graphics, necessary owing to my ancient eyes.

I use IE8 only for Microsoft Update, for everything else I use Firefox. It works with everything on Windows XP.

Opera was designed with a commitment to computer accessibility for users who have visual or motor impairments so it might be worth a try.

this site occasionally crashes Opera for me, no problems with FF or IE7 under WinXP or Ubuntu Linux (obviously not IE under Linux).

I like Opera best, but generally end up back with FireFox every so often because Opera is more finiky about what sites it will work with.

If only everyone would just stick to the W3C standards we wouldn't have this problem!

Sorry to hear that Mongoose, I always work with Opera and very occasionally had a crash but I surf with 10+ tabs open most of the time so it's probably my fault.

Yeah the standards... the less people using IE the better they say

No problems with Firefox here (Windows 7 64bit).

I don't like the sound of this all since the problem must be Windows 7 related, and I have an installation of that on my to do list.

One thing you might try depending on your hardware and level of comfort with technology is to install VMWare Server (free for personal use) under Windows 7. See http://www.vmware.com/products/server/

This program enables 'virtualisation' which allows you to install and run multiple operating systems concurrently in separate 'virtual machines' alongside you host operating system - in this case Windows 7 - on a single physical pc with a newish multi-core processor.

As such you could for example set up a virtual machine running linux where Firefox should work as intended with flash, while at the same time providing you with a considerably more secure browsing environment in terms of viruses, trojans, etc.
