My camera sales database is a couple of years out of date now (I got bored with it!) but the average price used to be 170 GBP. Given the rapid increase in lens prices over the last year or two I would say that 215GBP is a fair price but not a bargain.

coolio.
it's lba getting the better of me. i think i'll end up giving this a miss. a voigtlander 58/1.4 would be a much nicer prospect, and at a similar price. the 1/2 stop is something, but so it the aperture control, metering and that voigtlander rendering.

I think 215 sounds like a decent deal. Don't forget Kris's prices would have been prior to the Pentax lens price hikes. I've seen many K versions of this lens for sale over the last year or so for around £250-275. Sometimes £300+ but that seems a bit optimistic.

i see it as a decent enough price, but not enough of a bargain to go for it. i'd rather a voigtlander for a little extra money.
or perhaps i shoudn;t buy anything, which would be more sensible given my current line up.

If you're thinking about the Voigtlander you'd better be quick: they've gone out of production (in Pentax mount) and are out of stock at the UK dealer. eBay price spikes coming very soon I think.

thanks for the tip. i had followed that. i am actually heading to japan later in the year, and am thinking about what i should have on my hit list. nothing as big as a k-5, but something i might be able to get a good price on. perhaps something as simple as an fa 50/1.4 might do as well.If you're thinking about the Voigtlander you'd better be quick: they've gone out of production (in Pentax mount) and are out of stock at the UK dealer. eBay price spikes coming very soon I think.
but that voigtlander bokeh is incredible....

I bought my from ffordes for £250 in May. Srs had one for £299 and it's sold now, and they sold the A version for £499! So fair price for K series, depending on the version and shape would be £225-300 IMO...

so i can spot a 50/1.2, the k-version, for about 215 GBP. good price? seems like a good one to me, on the basis of the prices on e**y, but prices over there are often heavily inflated, so i don't know if it's a good deal in reality or not. any input as to the typical prices would be much appreciated!
