I currently have a penchant for extreme vignetting and heavy contrast.

It's a good idea but I think for it to work at its best then the subject should be critically sharp.

For this subject that would mean a tripod and smallish aperture, perhaps f16 or so.

yeah, this was taken hand held in windy conditions whilst squatting, at 1/60s, iso 280, f:4 (or sumpink)

Considering the conditions in which you took the shot you've done an excellent job. I really like this style of image, very moody.

It's amazing how you can make an ordinary plant look so sinister!!

I'd like to see some more examples if you have any.

P.S. Extreme Vignetting - sounds like a great new sport!!

Sounds better than pilates.
if you ask me pilates sounds like something you might catch from the water in Mexico....
"You coming out to take some photos Don"?
"Heck no, I gotta stay here at the hotel, near the bathroom....I got the pilates!!!"
Fired many shots. Didn't kill anything.

Wow, these are all great examples! I love the atmosphere created by the techniques that you've used.

It's definitely made me want to experiment with the post processing of my shots more.
