Electronic level innacuracy - how long to fix?

I agree that the QC is not acceptable and this should be something that can be calibrated by the user.

The K5 is my first Pentax and I love it but it is annoying that the level is about 2.5 degrees out. I use the same method as 'simonkit' and remember how many bars offset mean level.

A £10 spirit level is accurate to +/- 0.5degrees.

Anyone had it fixed by Pentax or do I send this one back as well?

I spoke to Pentax UK - answer was that there's no fix available and none for the foreseeable future so it looks like we'll have to live with it

It's not really a big problem if you know that the camera's
approximately level at 3 bars showing. This kind of level is
never going to be very accurate anyway. If it was you wouldn't
be able to hand hold it. It would move around too much.

Assuming it has an accuracy of 5mm/M for a scene 50M wide
that would be +/- 250mm which may or may not be good enough.

Every photographer should have one of these levels so that you
can level up the tripod head properly link

Nothing so far, if I had more time on my hands I think I would be back trying out other bodies, but to be honest I have had a bit of a week so far. I was going to wait till after the next wedding in October and then send it in for service under warranty between then and my trip away at Christmas (yes, I have thought about the possibility that the repair company could take a LONG time to get the camera back to me, hence the original question. The message above about them not having a fix might put a stop to that, although I find it hard to accept there is no way of adjusting this. I may just pack it all up and try for body number 4 at the end of the week if I can face it.

[quote: again]So, what have you done ?[/quote]Still nothing but I have just discovered that in portrait mode, the level on my camera is accurate, who would have thunk it! As this is the orientation I have more trouble with, I am tempted to leave it as it is, rather than lose the camera for a month or two and have it come back 'different'. Who knows, when we finally sort out debug mode, it might be fixable in that.

On my K-7 the auto horizon is spot on, most of the time. I think that tripod tests of this are somewhat pointless since is seems to work best with SR on and having to work hard - long handheld telephoto shots on a cold windy day

With the K5 you can have it on with the SR turned off at least.

After reading this thread I decided it was time to check my K5, after 15 minutes trying to figure out how to access menu4 I realised I was holding the K10D I really must be losing it, if I turn up at the Goth meet with care workers in attendance I hope you will show a little compassion

Fortunately my K5 level seems to be OK, using the kitchen worktops which I fitted and know to be level(ish) I also know the tripod mount on my Bigma throws it off by three bars to the left

According to this forum post that is not the advice Pentax were giving a couple of months ago. I will be sending mine back for recalibration after Oct 15 (I don't trust their speed and I need it then) and will report back with some actual experience.

My K7 was spot on - perfect and I used it a lot. However on the K5 it is miles off and I have a serious tilt if I try to use it. Pity as I do tend to tilt my cameras to the left
