K5 & K10D with AF240FT flash?

I think I know the answer to this but I thought that it would be safe to check first. I have a K5 and K10D and the AF360FGZ flash which seems to have an intermittent fault on both cameras in that it can under expose by 1 to 1.5 stops in PTTL mode, especially in rooms brightly lit by daylight.

I have an AF240FT flash from my SFX days which would have the added advantage that being smaller, it would fit better in my current bag.

My question is, is it safe to use the AF240FT on these cameras? I know that it doesn't have PTTL and presumably the flash's TTL mode will not work. It does not have Auto, so would I be restricted to full manual similar to the days of flashbulbs? That dates me!

Thanks in anticipation.

It's a known problem that the K10D underexpose but the K5 should expose your flash light better though.
When you change the flash balance in the camera it will remember that setting, because the flash forgets it.

All Pentax made flashes are safe to use, it's stated in the manual i believe
TTL mode will not work indeed so it's Manual mode only in your case.

I have an AF240Z which works fine on my K10D (subject to the obvious lack of PTTL etc restrictions).
There is 8.72v on the front pin relative to the side contacts.

I also have an AF260SA (ditto comments) which has 9.44V on the pin

Like you I was also concerned about blowing the cammera but was re-assured by other members (There is a web page that was refered to which is very interesting
http://www.botzilla.com/photo/strobeVolts.html)

I put a piece of black electrical tape over the sensor and use it like a flash gun of the 60's (also also dates me) and simply divide the GN (24/26) by the aperture/distance to work out the other.

I generally use the guns with a cheap radio trigger.
