This shot will need saving in Photoshop of course, where a quick cloning will remove the spot much more easily that it ever was to retouch a darkroom print.
In the camera try the dust removal system if you have a model with such a facility. The next step is the Rocket Blower, used carefully. The final step is a physical cleaning system, wet or dry, to remove the offending spot from the sensor.

Thanks John, that was quick!! The K-m has a "Dust alert" function but shows nothing and I have tried the dust removal system too.

Point to a blank wall at the highest f-number and overexpose the shot, all the dust will show on that photo then.
You might get e abit nervous of all the specks you see then.

Hi Andrew it's mirror lockup time.
Take the lens off then turn the camera back on and go to the dust removal section and look for mirror lockup.Use a rocket blower to blow the sensor when you think you've gave it enough turn off the camera.
Re-attach the lens and all should be back to normal.I would now take a couple of images of a piece of plain white paper then view on your pc.All should be dust free
I find this system works for me

Yes that looks like dust on the sensor.
Make sure the battery is well charged before blowing or cleaning.

Thanks to all. As a test I tried running 'Dust Alert' with the lens cap on. This produced after quite a long time a white image with what I assume were dust specks showing so I ran 'Dust Removal', the specks had moved and were less in number. A blower is on my shopping list!!

dont use it with the lens cap on, the cap is suppose to be off and pointed at a white back round that is all you need, and i would not recomend a blower to many people scratch thing with them ie the sensor or in my case the focus screen, i recomend this, it works a treat.

neil i know the problem you have with dust, and i to tested with the cap on and it gives dodgy readings, as will if you point it at something and do it, the best way i find is to point it at a bit of white paper,Thanks Scott, will have a look at that.

A good large bulb blower doesn't have to be placed very near to the sensor so there should be little chance of scratching anything. It's certainly safer than anything that does normally touch the sensor.

Scott, I have tried the white paper test and there is one speck just about where I would expect it to be, as in my image above. However, despite much sensor rattling it refuses to budge. It's not likely to be duff pixel is it?

It can be some dirt which is really stuck to the sensor. I would then resort to a blower but with a blower you risk blowing dust behind the focus screen.
I do use a rocket blower and if the particles do not leave willingly I take out the arctic butterfly.
