Dust behind focus screen

Hello,
Recently, I have noticed a build up of dust behind the focus screen on my Pentax K-M. It is of course in a place where I am unable to clean/blow out the offending objects. Has anyone any idea how to get rid of this annoying nuisance?

Hi, unless it's bad enough to be really annoying leave the screen alone as they scratch very easily.

Bill is is right - however if you are very careful (and you are technically minded) you could undo the little catch on the bracket that holds the screen in place - let the bracket & screen open up a bit and blow behind - carefully closing the bracket afterwards. Again though I agree with Bill and unless it's really annoying leave well alone.

When i had a KX and then KR it was a penta mirror above the screen rather than a solid pentaprism. Blowing a dropped screen could put dust in a worse place. I don't know which the earlier KM has but dust on a mirror is worse as it multiplies on reflection.

I had this problem with a K7. Cleaned for free by APM Camera Repairs, Old Eldon Square, Newcastle on Tyne. Have had good reports of this firm from others too.

I can vouch for this firm. My K10 was showing lots of dust on the censor which the dust removal system couldn't shift so I took it to APM at Old Eldon Square. When I went back an hour later it was done for a tenner. I paid up happily as I didn't want to mess about inside the camera myself.

I would have willingly paid too David and was pleasantly surprised when I was told there was no charge.

Unfortunately they couldn't remove the dust on my K5, which is not a criticism by any means.

The K5 is my 3rd Pentax DSLR, and all have 'suffered' this fate.
Foolishsly I followed the advice on the other forum, and tried to brush the dust off the screen with a painter's type brush. The result - the focusing screen resembled the floor of a barber's shop

I managed to remove the screen and blow the offending particles off, however as I didn't have a specialist tool to hold the screen, I ended up scratching and badly marking it.

I've since replaced the screen with a new one, but there is still some dust visible through the viewfinder (which the blower won't remove).

They are not distracting, and I just live with them now.
As earlier said, if they aren't distracting leave well alone, as I can testify what can happen when things go pear shaped.
