Dun Laoghaire Habour

Morning,

I'm in the middle of a two week holiday with the wife in her hometown of Dublin. We had a wander along the West Pier at Dun Laoghaire harbour last night and the sunset was quite spectacular. These have all had adjustments made in lightroom and three are a composite of three bracketed images which I've then worked on. All shot with the short DA* zoom, all handheld. Comments, criticisms very welcome, thanks!

The HDR images are beautiful - not at all artificial looking. in fact, if you hadn't pointed out that they were composites, it wouldn't have been apparent. Masterful.

The skies in 3 and 4 in particular really benefit from that HDR treatment. Its very much as if you had used an ND filter, a good light balancing act. No 3 has the most interesting viewpoint and layout of elements, and a nice lead-in with the foreground adding depth.

4 and 5 have the feeling of leaning to the right .... as so often with sea shots and coastlines, it may be a mixture of distortion and illusion.

Agree regarding 3 & 4, really like the skies. I really like the opening image although I think a slice off the bottom would work and the sky can be worked more also

Thanks for the comments guys. I think the illusion of it leaning to the right is given as the West Pier, opposite where I am shooting, actually curves in towards the East Pier. I'm reasonably good at checking the K3's built in level before hitting the button. 3 is also my favorite, although I wish I could've lightened the bell and sea defence a bit more, something to keep on working on. I've had a play with the first, thanks Gareth for your suggestions. Thoughts?

IMO HDR is gareish - these are anything but. Lovely colours, not overcooked and show how exposure bracketing & blending can be used to good effect.

Some natural looking HDRs, how they should be in my opinion
