Does Rain Stop Play?

I know the camera and most of my lenses are weatherproof, but I do not like the idea of rain and the associated grot getting on the glass.

The K-x gets zipped under the jacket, and I carry the K10 with 50-135 loose, if it's raining. Works a treat.

The camera and lens seem a lot easier to dry than I do!

And, t'is always fun to be playing in the rain...

I wish it was our view! A winter walk along the west coast of Victoria, that one.

That's the problem with rain in Spain Mike, it doesn't stay mainly in the plain and when it does rain like that I challenge anybody to trust the weatherproofing of their camera to keep all the water out.

Whilst it's entirely possible to take photo's one handed clutching a brolly in the other, in rain like that, it ain't pleasant. So no, I don't go out in the rain with my camera, mostly because we don't get very much and when it hammers down as in the video, who, except perhaps a journalist, would want to.

But that's not rain Peter - that's a deluge!

You need an Assistant to hold the brolly...then you hold the brolly in turn for her when she wants to shoot an image and you become the Assistant. Otherwise, it can be tricky!

Another good trick if you are working with someone and you both have backpacks is to carry each other's then you don't have to take it off every time you want something.

Very rarely , and never by choice

In fact that only time I have shot in the rain has been at an open air concert, and that was with a K100DS + Adaptall lens.

And / or, recycle a plastic shopping bag, tear hand holes in the bottom corners, then hands through one end and lens out the other. You can put a rubber band around the lens (works better with a longer lens though). The lightweight walls of the bag turn with the AF (assuming your lens barrel moves when focussing), if you've used a rubber band.

That kind of rain is quite common here. We don't get drizzle and endless damp days. Wall to wall sunshine for months on end, then a deluge and its back to sunshine.

You've doubtless heard of 'El Niño' in the southern hemisphere, we get the northern hemisphere version called 'Gota Fria' about every seven years.

Doesn't sound like you've been to North Wales John, it depends how much rain you're talking about

I do venture out but choose my times carefully, sometimes the lighting is downright bl**dy awful - having non WR lenses has never bothered me, I try to wait until it stops!!

Yes, I definitely go out in the rain, in fact did so on Sunday morning with a couple of Pentax users who were delighted to learn that their K10D and K20D could easily cope with the drizzle we had then.

Back in February I was out in much heavier rain, with the K10D and DA*300mm, and they got soaked (and muddy - had to put the camera down somewhere when I was setting up my tripod, just rinsed it in a clean puddle before I went home ). But I got what I consider some nice photos from it, so it was worth it for me. Have done the same on many an occasion too.

Until the end of 2008 I worked all over North Wales, as far down as Aberystwyth. Once or twice a year flooding was so bad it made getting home rather tricky...I've seen plenty of rain in North Wales!

However I live near Manchester, and we don't get much rain in Manchester....
