I have recently purchased a K20D . I took some photos in green mode. These were stored as DNG files . My laptop does not recognise this file extension .I am having difficulty in finding software which would read this file. Nadeem

Nadeem - go to this link and download the relevant file (Win or Mac). You should then be able to convert your dng files to jpeg.

If you use Windows, you can try FastStone Image Viewer http://www.faststone.org/FSViewerDetail.htm If you use Linux, you can go with Geeqie or darktable.

The software that came with the K20 perhaps mate? The dng extension is the standard adobe raw format so I'd say any adobe product will work pefrectly, I can recomend Lightroom just to name one, hope this helps Nadeem.

Set the camera to save as RAW+ - which will give you a DNG or PEF along with a JPG. You can also set the resolution and compression of the JPG.

As this is a second hand camera, did you do a full reset when received? It may have non-standard settings that the previous owner worked with and may not be right for you.

You can download a RAW thumbnail reader from :-

http://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/download/details.aspx?id=26829

It won't help you process the pictures, but it will enable you to see them within whatever folder you've stored them in.

You can go to the Pentax Web site and download Pentax Digital camera utility 4.

There is a tutorial by McGregor in General Digital Photography Chat Forum that will help you with this program.

That's probably an upgrade/update version and you'd need the original CD or serial number to load it.

No, there is a "trick" that another member pointed me to. Get a USB/pen drive and give that drive a specific name (cannot remember what - but a search back to around January will find it) and have that inserted when running PDCU4 set up.

Name the USB drive S-SW90

S-SW90 works. You don't even have to do anything with the USB stick other than have it plugged in while installing PDCU4.
I got PDCU from here in case it makes a difference.....link
