Disaster

So last weekend my wife had my camera hanging off the back of the kids pram and the pram fell backwards and the camera struck a blow to the ground. Didn't think much of it at the time as there were now breaks or scratches, until yesterday when I went to use it....my 16-50sdm's zoom is stuck in position at 16 and won't budge, and the auto zoom can't focus. Noooooooo............, any thoughts what it might be? Any tips ?

Not the best place to carry a camera - we know prams do that from time to time!

Off to JPS for a repair quote I think.

The only other thought is insurance? Get a claim in quickly if you're covered.
Best regards, John

I free get a quote for repair and check what your insurance covers

We all place our kit in risky places at times, I reckon you just had an unlucky moment

Unfortunately no insurance. The lens is 5 years old so no warranty. I am in Italy so I have to send it to France to get it repaired I think. I read online forums where jammin at 16mm is a common problem. But the focus issue is strange. I think it may be an alignment issue after the blow it took

I had the same problem (stuck ring on 16-50 following a short fall).?.

Alan Marlow (www.cam-rep.co.uk) sorted it at a very reasonable cost. There are several threads on this forum recommending his services.

I have used him before with my 55-300. Excellent service, a little slow in awaiting parts from Pentax but a great honest bloke I must say

Just got back from Alarm Marlow via email. I ma going to send the lens to him this week for repair. He said that Pentax will charge £150 just to look at the lens basically. From what I told him it'll probably set me back £100 for repairs if it's what he thinks it is. Not bad I say
