An interesting claim when you access a manual.

Each of these factory manuals are copyrighted by the respective manufacturer. If any manufacturer wishes us to stop distributing their manuals just let us know and we will immediately remove them from these pages. Favorite Classics likewise holds the copyright to ALL material on its pages, including these scans. Respect these copyrights

Well, if the manufacturer holds copyright to the manual then how can Favorite Classics claim copyright of the images of copyright material?

If I use the same argument, I could photograph or scan someone else's picture or book and then sell the scans without fear of prosecution whilst owning the copyright!

The ebay lister has this:-

ALL INFORMATION CONTAINED IN THESE .PDF DOCUMENTS ARE NOT UNDER COPYRIGHT AND ARE AVAILABLE IN THE PUBLIC DOMAIN, AND THEREFORE DO NOT CONTRAVENE ANY OF EBAYS POLICIES.

at the bottom of his listing.

The site has this:-

READ THIS BEFORE DOWNLOADING
Please do not download and copy these scans for purposes of reselling or making a profit. These manuals were either scanned by us or given to us to distribute free of charge, old camera lover to old camera lover. We could sell these, and the good folks that gave them to us could resell them. But we chose to distribute freely. Respect our efforts. If you wish to sell manuals, fine, go buy one and scan it yourself and sell it to your hearts content. But please leave ours free. Each of these factory manuals are copyrighted by the respective manufacturer. If any manufacturer wishes us to stop distributing their manuals just let us know and we will immediately remove them from these pages. Favorite Classics likewise holds the copyright to ALL material on its pages, including these scans. Respect these copyrights, do not resell.

We would appreciate hearing of anyone selling our scans on eBay, etc, so we can request them to stop. Thank you.

Copyright aside, the seller says he is distributing them freely and not selling them. So, what is the £4.99 plus £1.40 P&P for? CD + jewel case will be less than £1 and probably nearer 50p. £1.40 for postage and a padded envelope - about right.

All in all, is it surprising that he has only sold ONE !

I sent an email to the site admin, she sent this reply:-

Hi Dave,

Thanks for the link. Yes, the listing does link to my site, I've reported
this to eBay. Although there's no way I can tell if he's selling the free
manuals we scanned, but linking to my site is not right.

So she's now aware of it and will watch...

Yes K10, but the quality of some is ,shall we say, poor.

As for that site,Mannesty, I've used them on several occasions for Manuals.

Maybe we need a sticky thread listing all the known free manual sites.
