DA35 Macro problems

Hi all. Just got a second hand DA35 Limited and am trying to figure out if it is mechanically faulty.

As I turn the focusing ring it 'skips' having area that are really loose and others that are really tight. When using autofocus the camera sounds like it is struggling to turn it. For comparison my DFA100WR is completely smooth and problem free and it has a much longer focus throw.

Is this normal for the DA35 Limited or is it faulty and I should send it back?

Optically it appears to be really good.

Compared the the video below it is about 1/3rd the speed:

Just checked mine. Smooth action throughout the manual focus range. Usual whirr when AF.

Seems you have a dud I'm afraid.

Thought as much. Just got in touch with the shop, sending it back.

They've offered to see if a service/repair will fix it. I'm happy to try that first. Failing that a refund or a different 35 Macro (they have a second one to compare it with).

It sounds like it's got a fault but it also sounds like something that could be fixed. The focusing in my DA 40mm seized up completely a while back and a €45 service fixed it.

I'm hoping that is the case as the selling shop offered to get it repaired as the first option. I think that is sensible as it seems to be an issue with the cam-extension mechanism and the AF gearing. A disassembly, clean, oiling and service and reassembly might be all it needs.

Lens is back from repair. It is still slightly stiffer than other lenses I have and have used but importantly it has no 'wobble', the camera does not struggle to turn it and it all seems to be working correctly. Pleased with the result. Sadly I'm not keeping it as it is a gift for someone else .

I've had this issue before and it's a tough one. Sometimes the AF guide helicoid (if I can call it take) comes loose and causes issues as it rotates along with the focus ring/screwdrive. It's a pain in the backside to adjust.
All the gear with no idea
