DA*50-135 - another

Prompted by GTIS's thread I did a quick check on my lenses - the 50-135 has not been used for a while.

Guess what - it will not focus.

So, went through the various options, full battery, switching on/off, contacts, running it from one end to the other manually and with a fine screwdriver. NOTHING!

So, I tried my other lenses, DA*16-50, DA*300, FA24-90, FA20-30, DFA100 Macro. All work fine.

So, went to my old *istD and the batteries are dead, so back one step to my MZ-S. The DA*50-135 worked perfectly on that.

So, what is the focussing mechanism on the MZ-S? Is it using the drive screw or is it the SDM?

Yes MZ-S is using screw drive, you'll notice it's no longer silent. I've had this lens with a lazy AF in SDM after prolonged non use, put it back on the DSLR you might find you've woken up the SDM

Tried that ... I'll give it another try later or tomorrow though.

Mine wouldn't work on my K-7 but performed perfectly on my K-5iis maybe Pentax have upped the power on the later bodies?

I have no other camera to try it on,pity it doesn't revert to screw drive when the SDM fails
I could live with that

It is possible to edit and rewrite the eprom in the lens to deactivate the SDM so that it is a screw drive only lens on any camera.
