DA*16-85 still on roadmap

Posted 19/12/2012 - 20:37 Link
Hi folks
lost touch a bit with the news on the lens roadmap, forum search didn't reveal anything, so wonder if someone can help...

I seem to remember there was a DA*16-85 on the plan for 2013, and a teleconverter too.

Any news on these ? The DA* would be top of my list for next lens for the collection.

cheers

The 16-85mm will be interesting, I cannot see it being faster than constant f/4 so I think it will more likely be an upgraded 17-70 f/4 with weather resistance added, was the 17-70 SDM?

Yep SDM only. And pretty waterproof, though not officially so.

Pentax roadmaps are notorious for not producing the products on them, in the year suggested, if at all, so I wouldn't hold your breath on the 16-85 .

Pentax lens Roadmap.

Although it's the current map, it's already out of date. The long DA Telephoto planned for 2012 did arive in the form of the DA 560mm, but the roadmap hasn't been updated.

It's not 2013 just yet - The DA* 16-85 is in the 2013 section on that roadmap

Well the DA*16-85mm will make two of my lenses redundant as long as it's a constant 1:2.8 across the zoom range.

It'll completely replace my DA*16-50mm, partially replace my DA*50-135mm, and will dovetail nicely between the DA12-24mm and the Sigma 70-200mm.

I'll then have focal length coverage from 12-500mm with the Sigma 150-500mm with just 4 lenses, and a nice overlap between all of them.

That'll make my bag a bit lighter.

If it's a constant 2.8 I'll want one

If it's not a constant 2.8, I won't want one.

Same here. It may an unusually good copy but my Sigma 17-70 is great. but 2.8 -> 4.5

Ones I've tried seem soft in the corners. The Pentax 17-70 seems to have a long min. focus distance and the 16-50 seems to have a problem with SDM motors. Lets see if the 16-85 can solve everything

It will not be a 2.8 Nikon applied for a 16-85 f/4 this year. I can't see pentax doing a 3.5 to 5.6 in the DA* range as the other DA* are also constant aperture.

The front element would have to be around112mm or somewhere there abouts so would be far to heavy for a short telemzoom,

Time will tell in terms of if it being f2.8 or f/4. The focal range is very interesting though. I just wonder what it's price will be?

Well there's high and ridiculously high, either way I certainly don't have the funds currently and I no longer believe in Father Christmas.
