The DA has a metal mount, Quick-Shift manual focus override and is supplied with a hood.
The DA-L (for Lightweight) has a plastic mount, no Quick-Shift and no supplied hood (although you can buy the latter seperately).
There is no optical difference between the two.

Hi, I think the DAL is the kit lens that has been split from the body and I think it has a plastic mount and no hood whereas the DA has metal mount and lens hood. Optically I think they are the same. I am sure I read something like this about them although I could have got this wrong so feel free anyone to correct me.

You're right about the DA-L usually being a kit lens that's been split from a set Jacqui, hence they tend to be either unboxed or supplied in a plain brown box.

Other possible difference: no distance scale on the DA-L
This applies to the DA-L 18-55, so I guess it will apply to the other DA-L versions as well. Can somebody confirm?
