The Pentax 300mm Star lenses are all superb, and this being the latest in the line has the fast aperture, SDM focus and WR - you've bagged a nice cross-section of British wildlife with these, you should be really pleased

Hare and Damselfly for me, what a great set. The DA*300 is one of the lenses I will never sell, I too love this lens.

Thank you for all your kind comments - I don't honestly think that I will ever sell this lens either. It makes me want to go out and take photos in a way that very few lenses in the past have!

I had to think long and hard about buying this lens - I 'almost' bought it on a number of occasions but for one reason and another never did. Yes, it was expensive, but I have to admit it's worth every penny. Having said that it suits the type of photography that I enjoy - I sold an ultra wide-angle, the two DA plastic fantastic primes and a 50-200WR to help meet the costs of this so was very apprehensive at such a reduction in my lens bag. Do I miss them? Not with the DA*300 as part of my kit!

It is a great lens. The only thing I wish is that I had the 1.4x teleconverter to use with it. Sometimes the field of view/reach isn't quite enough.

Very nice, like others my favourite is the hare as well.
It is an exceptionally sharp lens and takes the 1.4x very well but I suggest you also keep an eye out for a single macro tube (or do as I did and butcher a cheap "A" contact teleconverter) as it will allow you to focus a lot closer while being a good distance away from your subject. This means you can more or less leave the macro at home if you want.

Thank you for your further kind comments. I have some manual tubes which I assume will just leave the lens wide open as they can't control aperture automatically... I'll have a play with those too & see what happens! A lot of these were focused manually anyway to stop any unnecessary hunting at crucial moments! Thank for the tip, Mike!
