Conecting to an android tablet

I was wondering if anyone knows if there is an android app out there that will allow me to conect my K-x to an android pad. I have just recieved one of these pads as a present, and as I do most of my work in the middle of nowhere, I was wondering if such an app existed.

I see other makers have compatable software but can not find anything for the pentax.

Also there are a lot of apps that use android phones for IR remote, but this is not what I desire. What I would like to be able to do is, instant view and maybe a little minor tweaking.

Any help even if negative would be welcome, if it doesn't exist why not? Androids are much easier to use than laptops especially out in the sticks, as they are light and very portable. or is there something in the pipeline?

As for the Android app - I haven't heard of such an app. The closest thing I can think of is the Flickr app, but as far as I'm aware, it only allows mass uploading of files, browse your photostream, etc, but not live view. Have a look in the App Garden on the Flickr site though - there could well be something there.

You can insert a Ey-Fi SD card into the K-x and connect directly to an android tablet, tend to work best, i.e quickest on the smallest jpeg file, I now shoot Raw +, the raw stays on the card, the jpeg copies to the tablet and displays the image to the sitter.

There's nothing I'm aware of that'll give tablet control over the camera, if you do come across it, let me know plse.

shame about there not being an app, there should be one really. I know an app design company in Wiltshire, I wonder if giving them a heads up as to needs and wants may inspire them.

OK as to Ey-Fi never used it but will look into it thank you. I suppose it is sort of what I am looking for, then a photo editing app to play with balance and contrast. Just a shame they are so expensive.

I also like RAW+ just a shame it takes up so much space. but can't knock the quality. Even opening JPeg in Camera Raw is not quite the same.

Of course you could write one! http://developer.android.com. Not saying it's easy though!

One plus point on the space is that you can set the Ey-Fi to take the Jpegs and leave the raws on the card, so either the card fills first with the Raws or the Tablet fills first ( unlikely ) with the Jpegs.

I use 8GB SDHC cards and have yet to fill one completly on a 5 hr portrait shoot.

I do only use this mode as an aid to the model so she can see whats being captured.

Are you talking 'Tethering' type app?

There's http://www.pktether.com/ which will run on PC... I would have though the guy who runs it will already be working on an android-app version, but you could contact him direct...

I must look at my settings. I have an EyeFi 2 card but would only upload when I set it to jpeg only (I think). Certainly when I had it in RAW+jpeg, the jpeg didnt upload to the tablet

No its not...... found it hard enough at school in the 80's with the ZX Spectrum

I do want it as an aid, a quick reference just like you do with your models. also as a time saver. as i can fill up 8gb in 2 hours... problem with wildlife and sports when you have the reflexes of a striking sloth like i do, i would say 6gb is wasted space taken up.

Though not sure how much control I would want personally so tethering may be a bit too complex for my needs but ideal for others. I take it is very much like linking up to a mac in a studio, all camera work is done on the camera and view and possible edit on the tablet. this is where i had the idea. sort of like taking the studio outside.

Anyway emailed an android app development company (who are looking for developers btw) fingers crossed they may get back to me as did mention there would more than likely be a large market for this app both professionally and for the everyday user.

Now of to look at these forums see if there are points that will help me stop wasting valuable sdhc space.

I'm sure it would - I'd be interested. I'd imagine they'd be wanting to get it working on the iPad first though from a market share POV.

The other problem is there's a larger market for Canikon versions of these apps. I've been looking into this a little bit too, and the magic word "tethering" helps in my searches. The Eyefi SD card looks like the simplest way to preview pics quickly once taken, and since (from my brief rattle around the internet earlier) Pentax hardware doesn't support live view via tethering then we'll never be able to fully control the camera from a tablet/pc, then this may well be the best we can expect. PKTether looks to be worth a try with a laptop, and who knows, the devloper may put an Android/Apple version together. There's also pkTetherCord - open source - maybe someone will look at porting that to Android?

Well had a reply from the App Designer, they said they have nothing in the pipeline for such an app, but for a fee they would design one for me that i could then do with as I wished, the price though depended on how long it took to design starting at £2500 a week.

oh well If money was no object I could see a profit there eventually.

Someone's already made an android app and mentioned it on this site a couple of times. Try a thread search (away from the PC right now!)
