Cheapest AF Prime

Looking for a cheap way into a (relatively) fast AF prime for my club photography, ideally a 28 and nothing slower than 2.8; what usually goes for the least money used these days?

There is only one new prime that has AF and although it is not 28mm, it is the DA35mm F2.4. New it is around £130-£150.
If you want 28mm, then the only new one is the Sigma 28mm F1.8 at around £330.

Second-hand, you could try and find the Pentax F28mm F2.8 or FA28mm F2.8.
However, it may take a while in finding one for sale.

Apart from that, there is not a lot, apart from spending a lot on the FA31mm F1.8 Limited.

Some Cameras

28mm was a classic 35mm film focal length, equating to about 42mm on digital. Did you use a 40mm or 45mm lens on film? If you didn't, and were using a 50mm on film then the 35mm lenses are the new standard lens that's an equivalent.

Otherwise, the 31mm is the closest you can get without going to second hand lenses, which is not very good news I guess in terms of cost.

If you can go slightly wider, the 24/2.8 Sigma af is good, but screw drive af is slow and noisy, near focusing is good. Use with a hood.

Yeah I was looking at the 24/2.8; basically I just want something wide enough for group shots in a club where I'm around 5-6 feet away maximum; at the moment I find myself using my 18-55 more than anything else, although occasionally I'll be using my 28-200 which does the job okay as well, which leads me to believe that 28 should be just about wide enough. 24, however, would be even better.
