Cheap Grip Warning!

Anyone thinking of buying a cheap third party grip beware, as mentioned in several threads before the buttons and switches are not up to the Pentax standard.

The shutter release button fell off mine the other day

My wife found what appeared to be a plastic stud of some sort and thought it was from my camera, I said dont be silly, bits dont fall off cameras, then I noticed a shiny spring on top of my Bigma case, I was at a loss for a few moments until that dreaded feeling when you suddenly realise what it may be from, taking the K5 from the bag confirmed it was the shutter release button from the grip, fortunately it has pushed back into place and appears to be firmly seated, it had small lugs on the bottom which must clip into something, oddly enough the button now feels more secure than it did before and it is working OK.

I know now that I'm going to be constanly checking it to make sure its not fallen off

You get what you pay for and I shall be saving up for a genuine grip

Just got the cheap grip for my K-5 and will be watching the parts like a hawk. Thank you for the warning.

Ummm, I feel like referring to the "Get a grip" remark on the other thread but I will try and resist.

Oooops .... too late.

Somebody here once wrote "Buy cheap, buy twice." The cheaper article is cheaper for a reason.

We've all done it, picked up what we thought was a bargain, only to eventually decide that we should have spent more wisely in the first place.

This of course does not apply to everything in life. I never buy Duracell batteries, for example.

The high price of the genuine grip really does'nt help. I remember when the genuine k10/k20 grip shot up from being £80 to £160 overnight. If Pentax dropped the price of the K-5 grip I'm sure they would find a more profitable spot between demand and unit price.

I'll make a mental note of that then! I'm planning on getting a K-5 in 2 months and was thinking about getting a third party grip for a few months or so.

I am presuming you mean on the D300?
There seems to be quite a few different makes (and therefore quality) of copy grip for Canon and Nikon whereas the K-5 has maybe 2 at the most.
