Canon's new offering

Interesting, Canon seem to have tried to make a more complex camera with simplified controls and less buttons. Should appeal to the masses me thinks. Not keen on the articulated screen though, they always look to fragile to me.

At a glance looks like they've reduced the level its at, so will be more a case of 60D will be competing against the Kr rather than the K5 (assumeing the Kx-Kr-K7-K5 model lineup that is heavily rumoured), and the K5 will be more aimed against the 7D & D700 (although not FF).

I think articulated screens are a good thing if a camera has decent Live View (especially for macro or overhead work) - since they are now common in P&S models (to differentiate from cameraphones) I guess they must be reasonably rugged......

Whilst I agree it is more a K-r competitor, I am prepared to bet it will be compared to the K5 instead in reviews. And no matter what, in most magazines it will come out on top .

I would like an articulated screen on a Pentax. It might make live-view more useful, assuming live-view has improved on the K5.

Canon users seem to be pretty upset with the 60D.
No lens focus adjustment, same focus system as the D50 (which is still miles ahead of the K-7), plastic body .. etc etc.

Seems the xxD series has been shifted from semi pro to middle ground .. and its release price is looking like it will only be around £100 cheaper than the 7D which is in a totally different league.

They have announced some very nice lenses though.

300mm f2.8, 400mm f2.8, 500mm f4, 600mm f4 and new teleconverters.

I don't see how much of an upgrade this is to the 550d. May as well get that one, or even better, a K-7

Seems like bringing out a new model for the sake of bringing out a new model...!! Something Pentax thankfully don't appear to do. Unfortunately magazines, who of course have a vested interest in new models, see Pentax in a negative light e.g. not much to review.

Would be a godsend for macro and some copy work. Don't need to use it except in controlled situations so I doubt it would be the first thing to break. Would like to see this on Pentax. And think we will.

The screen articulation is just like on the old Canon S2 IS mega zoom I have (although not nearly as big) It works really well and being able to close it back around on itself to protect the screen is really useful as well as the ease in low and high level shooting.

Best thing ever fitted to a camera, I have it on my G11 works great.
