Looking for lightweight, reasonably sturdy for occasional use and no second mortgage. Advice appreciated, thanks.

Redsnapper is highly rated and very good value for money, being below £100 for the whole set.

Specifying price range would help to recommend something

Thanks Aleks I guess £50 - £125, not sure what extra I'll get between these two figures.

If it's any help I have just bought this last week bought one, Link below.

For the money I am very impressed, I did have a Benbo trekker before, good tripod but to cumbersome for my needs.

I use a Manfrotto 055, but of course it's moderately heavy.

If I were buying a tripod for the field, then I'd buy Eddie from Three Legged Thing.

I have a MeFoto Backpacker - in PURPLE

link

I bought mine from SmartShop via Amazon - and actually it was my second attempt to get one - stocks ran out the first time. This time it was advertised at £59 and included 3 Arca Swiss QR Plates !!

The total I paid was £64 and a few pence instead of £100

I'm one happy bunny there's a plate on the K30 now and I won't need to take it [ the tripod] to New York this summer as I can use one of the tripods there , should I need one

Ooh pretty colours. I like my cameras black or silver but I could be tempted by an electric blue tripod!

Whatever you get make sure it will comfortably take the heaviest camera and lens combo you have.

My New York pal has a RED one - as he says he can spot it easily

He also has a Brian - but the BackPacker is the one he uses when he's going away - has a nice wee case too .

I can't help feeling I got a real bargain - the first one I tried for was £129 and I see they are all around the £100 mark now . Mine arrived at the beginning of January .

There are also other models of MeFoto tripods too - to suit all pockets and usage

The Giotto one on Jessops looks good too Matty.

Me Foto a bit short for me I think..........

Glad I asked thanks for the help.

I have one of those as my travel/hiking tripod and it is an amazing bit of kit. You can easily walk around with it clipped to your belt, and it will hold a K-3 with Tamron 70-200mm no problem. Folded, it is about half the length of my Giottos 9351b.

I had the Redsnapper RST-283 with RSH-24 head and recently sold them on this forum.

There is no doubt that the build quality is excellent and for studio work it is a great combination but in my opinion very heavy, if you plan to take to the hills or do lengthy walks I would consider a lighter alternative.
