Cameras with K mount

I knew Ricoh and Samsung used a type of Pentax K mount but not Chinon link or any of these link. Popular was it not!!

Some of Jessops own brand "Centon" models also used the K mount although IIRC they were reworked Pentax bodies

Are any of the lenes from the other makers worth looking at?

I'd imagine most of the primes are decent enough.

I have a Tokina AT-X 28-85mm which is a very nice piece of kit too, although more useful on MF film bodies.

I think that most of the named bodies were made by either Cosina or Chinon, with the addition of Tokina for several brands of lens.

the Ricoh's weren't bad... my second (if memory serves) camera after the Pentax k1000, I bought a Ricoh..

many features, solid build, it was a nice upgrade for me, and a daily use item until the Pentax mz5 . I always used it with Pentax lenses though. My belief at that time was the body needed to hold the film flat... as I shot mainly on manual... Glass was more important to me.... but other people said the ricoh lenses were ok, but prone to lens flare...

They have missed one from the list Barrie - my first K-mount camera (and SLR) was a Cosina CS-1 in about 1980. Odd that they have listed the CS-2 and CS-3 but not the CS-1. The CS-1 was manual, but a rather bulky aperture priority add-on was available (which I aquired later) that fitted on the hotshoe and operated the shutter speed dial. I used mine for 12 years before I inherited a Pentax ME Super.

Miranda MS3 - my first SLR!

Mine was a Miranda MS-1, bought in '86 from Dixons.

I gave it to my stepson when he started doing Art at college about 7 years ago, he still uses it now.

I got given a Chinon CE-5 a couple of years back, it's got a f1:3.5/4.5 28-50mm zoom which I'd totally forgotten about until this thread. I'll give it a try on my K20

Had a Chinon CP7-m. Partly why I stayed with pentax when moving on to keep the k-mount stuff I had collected!

That's weird it doesn't fit

It says P/K on it but won't go onto my K20

I can't find the thread, but remember something about the guard for the aperture lever being too long on some lenses?

I have an old Tokina 28mm with just that problem, the guard is twice as long as the one on a Pentax lens of the same vintage and catches on the camera body.

It was initially hoped that the K mount would become a new universal mount, but in the end this didn't really happen. Quite a few manufacturers did take it up, but no-one really significant.

I guessed that was the problem when I compared it with a lens which does fit

Strangely enough it was a Tokina I compared it with, it's about 3 times as long on the Chinon lens.
