I had a search and couldn't see any news on this here but if I've missed the thread and this is old news please excuse me.
Microsoft has brought out Camera Codec Pack which contains Codecs for just about every camera around the place, but the bit were all interested in is that it contains Pentax Camera Raw Codec and not just for 32 bit, yep it has a 64bit codec as well that works like a charm.
Here's the details .......
Microsoft Camera Codec Pack (16.0.0652.0621)
there is a 32bit pack and a 64bit one and both are on this page

I don't trust anything Microsoft. I'm sure it will turn my pictures into a love solid blue.... followed by a need to uninstall and re-install the camera os, which won't work unless I upgrade the af modual, which will then develop a driver conflict with the battery, which upon replacing, the new battery will carry trojans and malware that will afflict ........ God I hate Microsoft....
Fired many shots. Didn't kill anything.

Very misleading title of course. tut tut

I installed a RAW codec to allow the viewing of RAW files, including DNGs in Explorer, ut it slowed explorer down to a crawl. I uninstalled it very quickly.

based upon that I'm a bit reluctant.

I might install it on my 64bit WIN 7 partition and see though.

Nothing wrong with Microsoft. I used Windows XP for 10 years and it NEVER crashed

I've always used Fast Picture Viewer Codec Pack on Win 7. Not free ($14.95) but displays a very large list of raw and other formats, including PSD files. No problems with speed on my machine.

It does Pentax PEF, but not Samsung PEF, so I've just asked them whether that can be added. The Microsoft one in the original post doesn't do Samsung PEF either (just tried it).

My own website is www.richardgaddphotography.com

If you have a 64bit Intel processor and 64bit Windows, the x86 download doesn't work in Explorer. You need to download and install the file "MicrosoftCodecPack_amd64.msi", which I originally assumed was specific to AMD processors.

Is it just me or are Microsoft getting weirder .........

we apple users generally don't think in terms of "have most of the RAW codes right" or not. We just plug it in and it works.

No because AMD64 is the basic 64bit code and yes it's created by AMD, intel did the 32bit.
