Cad West Thurs 16th Aug

Morning,

One from a day trip to Cad West, 5 x Torcano's, 4 x F15's 3 x Typhoons and a Tornado passed in total, and didn't get that wet either !

Just noticed this is my 1000 post, a good way to achieve that

K3 with Sigma 100 -300 F4 at 150mm F6.3 1600 ISO and 1/8000 sec - straight from the camera other than a shadow lift on the Typhoon




I could have dropped the ISO a tad, but the light wasn't brilliant and changing rapidly with the wind, cloud and rain.

A Torcano 1/200 sec, F5.6 ISO 100 and Sigma 100 - 300 F4 @ 220mm




F15 1/8000 sec, F5.6 ISO 3200 Sigma 100 - 300 F4 @ 110mm

Nice prop blur on the Torcano

Nice images Chris. Particularly like the Typhoon against the skyline and as Mike mentioned the prop blur on the Tucano is superb...would look great larger size.

Still not managed to get across there yet this year, hope to get the opportunity in a month or so.

It's an amazing location and great action shooting! It never looks like one of the UK's top sun spots, so higher ISOs and shadow lifting seems to be a necessity ....I won't pack the K7 if I ever go!

They are that close you do get a good feel of their actual size, I'd estimate about 250ft at the closest point with a Typhoon doing 500mph ish.

The location is outstanding and you don't need massive lenses either, particularly if you sit slightly lower than the stile on Cad West, the higher up you go, the further away you are, I tend to use a 100 -300 F4 and a lot of my shots are around the 150mm area, I took a good friend up for the first time recently and all he had was a 24 - 80 and with a crop, his images were decent.

Thanks Chris, I missed this before ..... I would love to have such an opportunity, but travel and free time for the hobby is not possible for me at present .... I'm struggling to even get to the local gardens and forests nearby.

I think probably fast jet photography should wait for my long overdue camera and lens upgrades! I'll let you know when things are looking up ....
