CAA Lithium Battery Warning

Help. Flying to Canada soon and taking my k5 plus spare battery in hand luggage.
How do I conform to regulations. Must be many people like me who travel infrequently who are completely innocently ignorant of how we should comply.

Please explain in simple terms because that is how I am.

Ask the airline!
Their rules may be particular.

I found Newquay airport had one rule but the carrier had far more stringent rules.

1) have fully charged battery in the K5
2) fully charge your spare battery and then put the Charger in your case that's going in the hold
3) take your spare battery and put it in a close fitting bag [ or plastic box NOT a metal one ] make sure that if it's a bag the contact end goes in first .
4) make sure that spare battery is not rolling around - pack with bubble pack if necessary ]

Put that box/bag in your carry on bag or in your camera case.

That should do it.

I've already flown twice this year using that method

Thanks for that advice. I keep my spare battery in a small cloth bag at home to prevent any shorting issues.
Is there any issues with my laptop battery that will be in my hand luggage please?

shouldn't be - after all you will have to take that [ the laptop] out of your bag to go through the scanner and it's properly and safely connected in the computer.

Do you have a grip attached to your K5 - if so you can put your second battery in that all the time - and it's terminals/contact points are then protected.

With this trip i'm doing at the end of next week I'll have the K30 and iPad in my camera case [ along with all the usual stuff including the spare battery in its Think Tank pouch,
plus a smallish carry on bag with the Lappy and the stand I have for that , plus things like mobile phones [ one is no longer used as a phone but as an alarm clock as it flashes a light which wakes me ] my iTouch and my Kindle

All chargers , adaptors [ not for this trip but needed when I go to the US in June] and a 4 socket Surge protected extension block go in the case in the hold.

Actual security screening does seem to vary - I prep for the most secure - no belts and make sure that all electronic stuff can be got at easily as they go through security on their own and you then have to stuff them back into your carry on or pockets once through. Even my walking stick has to go through the blasted machine.

Thanks again. Know the problem. I made the mistake of going to the US. Never again. Stood for over an hour and a half whilst they checked out a dodgy traveler at immigration. Asked for something to sit on as my legs are past standing on. You would have thought I was asking for the moon. Never got anything.
I am hoping that Canada are more obliging. From some reports they can be just as difficult at immigration.
Belts!! Well, my trousers will not stay up without one. Have to go through holding them up. Did see some advertised with a plastic fittings but reasoned that they will still request that I conform and remove it. I normally wear braces. That could be interesting. Jogging bottoms seem the best bet here.
I will only be taking the K5 plus two lens. Traveling through the Rockies by train and then by cruise liner through the inner passage. It's a golden wedding gift from, my wife, Lucky me.

Coming back from JFK may be a bit more stressful

Not sure how bad it's going to be - I can't walk the distances at airports so I'm on 'mobility assistance' and am transported through the airports by wheel chair.
