Having just joined this most informative forum I feel it is time to leave you all behind.
I posted something last night that was humorous and had it deleted for potentially being offensive. It wasn't.
I find this extreme censorship a little unpalatable but what was worse was the PM that explained this. To put it mildly it was condescending and unfriendly.
I am a member of many fora, so I am totally aware of what is and isn't acceptable, by both parties, and having slept on it I have decided I cannot be a part of a forum where humour is frowned upon and the admin censor so freely and treats it's members with such disdain.
You will not miss me, I know, and I will miss this forum but I have my principals and have decided to stick to them.

I wonder if this will be censored

Some of the replies can come across as a bit short and intolerant and, having been on the receiving end of an admin e-mail early on, I can sympathise. They aren't exactly friendly and presumably standard replies which don't always work.

That said, it would be a shame to leave after one poor experience. The vast majority of members on here are friendly, knowledgeable and always willing to put themselves out. I have learnt so much that it's worth putting up with the odd negative experience.

Well I missed whatever post you had deleted, so I can't comment on that, but I do hope you will stick around a bit longer and get to know us all before deciding to leave.
We are mostly a friendly bunch, and pretty tolerant too. Even the mods .

Totally agree ... although to be fair it is only the one admin.

I'd just lurk for a while. We've had people leave saying they would never some back. Some of them have missed the place and done a u turn. Or even came back with another user id, making no mention of their previous membership (embarrased maybe - I don't know).

Easier just to hang around for a while than maybe taking the other options sometime in the future

Some of them don't even have a Pentax camera and still can't bear to leave the place.

Humour can be a very tricky think to post on a forum, as you don't know the sense of humour of all those who will read what you have written, and what is funny to one person can be offensive to another.I can remember at a Linedance Class, we were told that next week we will be learning a dance called'Titanic' an one very witty guy said "Wow that will go down well" This I think is a SICK joke. Not having seen what you wrote I don't know if you have been fairly treated or not.but it would be a shame to leave a very usefull forum on for this reason.

Many of us here have suffered heavy handed censorship, including me, but please don't let the actions of one person spoil your enjoyment here.

You'll get over it, as most of us have. This, after all, is our forum and it's a real shame that the 'admins' are not democratically elected.

They can censor us, and we can do nothing about it except leave the forum it seems.

I'm sorry to hear that you have had a negative experience. Like everyone else here says, this is a good forum to be a member of.

Human nature dictates that some people can be extremely curt in their replies - sometimes the intended recipient misinterprets what is written, because some folk think that how they would say something aloud is how it should be written. As an example of what I mean: I ask a member of my staff to sweep the floor, and they tell me to "sod off", but give a little smile - I know it was most likely intended as a joke. On the other hand, I ask a member of staff by email to perform the same task, and I get an email telling me again, to "sod off". The human interaction element is lost in the electronic communication to a point where I am likely to fire that staff member for what has been (mis)interpreted as insubordination.

You made a mistake - you will learn from it. As for the wording of the PM you received, I cannot comment, but perhaps it is wiser to PM the sender in a calm manner to try to resolve things amicably. Like everyone else here - we'll be sorry to see you leave.

I'd sleep on it if I were you!!.. I know it's only early afternoon, but I find Nytol to be very effective!!

All matters relating to things like that should be discussed by PM, then we wouldn't get into these situations. What people do and what they say they do in public can be very different and it's easy for everyone to get over excited about things they are not party to.

I'll close this now, as only the OP actually knows what happened.
Best regards, John
