Cheers Nigel, Nigel, Gareth, I am enjoying the added possibilities that the flash has opened up for me. Loving getting down low and ending up with wet mucky knees

Nice set.
Not sure if you want IDs, but the beetle is a nettle weevil and the yellow fly is a yellow dung fly. The spider is a wolf spider of some kind (possibly Pardosa sp.)

Based on your photos I have finally ordered a large soft box to hand hold a flash and will also be getting wet and muddy knees before long !

I'd be interested to know what softbox you've bought and how you get on with it (hopefully with some good example macro photos ) I've made myself a DIY softbox / flash diffuser for my macro photos, which works well for around the allotment and local area, but can't be folded so it's no good for travelling.

My rig is usually 52mm tubes, 105mm macro lens, viltrox ringflash, homemade diffuser.Superb photographs, Derek, especially the weevils.

Made up with plastic mixing bowl. Bottom cut out. Outside painted black. Inside painted white.
Then taped to the ringflash
Empty coffee tin (well known brand) cut in half and fitted into centerof rinflash as a hood to cut back flare.
White foamy packaging aroud that to diffuse the light.
Looks monstrous but it's light and it works.
I might just glue them together instead of taping, as I can't see myself using the ringflash without it.
