Boots Slide Film

Dear All,

I have just bought a couple of rolls of Boots ISO 200 35mm slide film (£7.99 each, process paid, also on 3 for 2)

It has the tell tale 'Made in Japan' on the packaging which suggests Fuji origin, confirmed by the return envelope for processing.

Can anybody share any experiences of this product?

Regards
Peter

Used it plenty of times in the past, was happy with the results. The last couple of rolls were about two years out of date by the time they were processed and still came out ok!

I have three fresh rolls of the stuff awaiting use this summer, one loaded in my SFX.

It's a long time ago, I tried Boots make film and thought they lacked depth of colour compared to my normal Agfa 400ASA slides. It's that long ago they could have changed supplier now, but I wonder even if made by a well known brand, it's second string to keep the cost down.

Here's a sample image from my last roll (just scanned, no other treatment):

A pretty horrible photo (think that's a mix of the cheap 28-70mm I had on my P30t at the time and my only bothering to learn things like depth of field since going digital and taking it more seriously) but the colours have a pleasing wistful look to me.

Edit, should perhaps add that I took this about ten years ago!

Incidentally, the roll I have just finished in my Ricoh was three years in the camera.

It appeared none the worse for it, except for the fact that the foam light shields in the camera back were a bit perished and some light had leaked in. I think when I last used film regularly, I had masking tape along all four edges of the camera back, but had forgotten to replace it.

For the slide film, I will be using the MZ6 I acquired a couple of months ago.

Mine's in the SFX, mostly as due to the camera not leaving the film leader out I can't use it to shoot black and white. My Rondinax tank needs the film leader out (easy to do with manual rewind) so you can load it into the tank.

Matt,

Have you tried looking for a film leader retriever.

Aren't they just a thin flat piece of metal with small hooks to catch on the film sprocket holes, that can be inserted between the brush/baffles on the film cassette?

Winding the film causes the hooks and sprockets to engage.

Apologies if you have tried this avenue already.

I've heard of them, but they don't seem to be 100% successful?

TBH if I'm using film I want to use a mechanical camera I think, it just adds to the experience. My last film camera before buying the K-m was a P30t, now I plan to use a KM and MX. The film is an excuse to use superbly-engineered machinery that's incredibly nice to handle.
