Had a trip to Bolton Abbey at the weekend but the lighting wasn't great...just messed around with a mono conversion & would appreciate a few thoughts on it

thanks

Lovely scene. Perhaps the conversion is a bit harsh and contrasty. It may be my monitor but the tones look a little brittle and unreal.
Best wishes,

Andrew

I agree with Andrew, its kinda harsh. Composition is very nice.

Simon,

I am sorry but this leaves me a little disapointed as the image of the actual abbey side appears flat. The large expanse of river seems to take over the picture.

Perhaps i am a little critical because I know the place well. I am envious that you have managed a shot without people given the popularity of the site.

Did you manage to get to Barden Tower futher up the river? I think that has great potential given the right light etc...

Dave.

i love the composition, but agree with Dave that the ps work has highlighted the foreground over the background a little too much, also the black cloud going through the tree is a bit distracting

Thanks everyone for the feedback...I've printed the shot too and agree with the comments regarding the processing, it needs something a little more subtle. I'll have another go

I've tweaked the original slightly - still going for something a little dramatic but hopefully this time a bit more subtle
