In addition to the 85mm lenses, the Sigma 70mm f2.8 macro is superb for ... macro. Then there is the Pentax FA 77mm f1.8 ltd, which has acquired near-legendary status for normal use and can do nice things with a tube attached. It's horses for courses, so which course do you want your horse to run on then we can suggest which horse to buy/beg/borrow?

I have used the classic M series 85mm f2 for years and still love the images it produces.

Maybe check out a super-multi-coated Takumar 85mm/1.8 (or of the other variants)? I wouldn’t be without mine and they’re such marvellous pieces of engineering that have really stood the test of time.

The M 85/2 is a lovely lens, but if you really want to shake things up there is the D-FA 85 1.4

Certainly not. I have seven (from 25mm to 180mm) plus tubes and a Raynox macro conversion lens. And then there are the reversing rings and coupling ring... And I'm not a greedy person - just someone who wants a macro lens for every occasion .

What are my options for a prime lens in between the sizes stated in the thread title?
I know about the Sigma 85mm 1.4, but it's like trying to find rocking horse poo in a magical unicorn field....
Thanks,
Ian
