I'm undertaking a project on Barry Island, some of you will have seen some of my past uploads here from there. The project now has a title called 'When The Fun Stops'.

I went down on a wet and blustery day and spent some time there, as the day produced many images, I've split them down into sets.

I find 2 draws me to it the most.

Four horizontal layers of different heights and colour/texture, that work well together with the sign (of which Rio would not approve !) adding a focus.

If taking pictures is all about the photographer "seeing" a concept, then executing it, then this is a prime example. Sadly I would have probably walked right past, and missed the opportunity

Thanks all

Peter, when I saw that sign I knew there was potential with the layers as that's how m eye saw the scene when I dropped down to that level. I also shot it, with luck on my side, in Barry Island Set 1 further down the forum page with a lone dog running past it in the distance

I know what you mean. For me there's something nostalgic and romantic about black and white for me and stripping away the colour allows us to focus more on shape and form. I think when you've looked at the work of photographers like Doisneau, Cartier-Bresson, Brassaļ to name a few and how they captured life around them then anything black and white starts to have an affect on you
