Aperture 3 is out!

Aperture 3 is now out, haven't had a completely thorough read, but looks good from what I've seen so far!

Looked great. Tried Aperture 2 a few weeks ago and was missing some features I got used to in LightRoom2. (more localized edits). But Aperture seemed to be sooo much faster with large catalogs/libraries! And noise reduction looks much better. I am hoping Aperture 3 is worth the price to switch over.

Tried Aperture 3 this afternoon... first two attempts to import my photos caused an abort.
So far attempt #3 has been going five minutes... it needs to run pretty much through the night, so my fingers are crossed with this version! (actually working off backup folder this time. I think Aperture might have problems with LightRoom XMP files. (only significant difference between the two folders).

Anyway, I'm really hoping to dump LightRoom. It is sooo slow. LR3 should be faster but if its core functionality is still based on their scripting language, there is no much that can be improved in that respect.

Nope, went down again. Aperture 3 is crap. ARGH!!

No argument from me. I gave it up for a different reason though, can not be used cross-platform.

THe Photomonk

I've always been tempted to get a Mac just so that I can run Aperture. From what little I've seen of it at the store, it was a decent product but there wasn't anything that made it significantly better than either Lightroom or Bibble.

I guess this means I'm making a trip down to the local Mac shop to give it a try.

as somebody who is very happy with aperture and has a few computers kicking around.... I gues I'll have to download the newest version and post a review here as well!

Actually, I am not surprised that the release of Aperture 3 is out. There has speculation on a number of fronts it was coming especially since Lightroom is about to be final released, and if Apple did not move fast, it was in danger of losing an already declining market to Adobe.

I have used Aperture since version 1.5 through to 2.1. I found it to be painfully slow, and not as easy to use as CaptureOne Pro which I now use. Also when I had to get a netbook a year and a half back, which then ran only Windows XP, I had to start looking for a program that was cross-platform. I could have chose the Adobe route, but I am really fed up with their costs for licensing, how slow their programs are at times, and their seeming upgrades that always seem to be hitting me in the pocket on a frequent basis.

I looked at Aperture 3.0 and its specs. Though they tout 200 more features, I find most of them to be toys more than anything else. They do have some improvements, but not a whole lot.

Got a 24inch IMAC 2.4intel duo core with 4gb memory, can't say if it is slow or not but aperture runs fine for me.
also have a 13 inch macbook with same 4gb memory not slow either.
I also have lightroom on both.

you do need to boost the memory on a mac when you are running these programmes.

If you are switching to a Mac try for the highest os /memory and an external HD

I was looking at big imacs in the shop today - lovely displays and pretty nifty with a TB of disc.
But Cool is expensive, I'm afraid.
I'll have to make do with my mini for some while yet.
