I have to admit - it has amused me Tony. First time I've had the 'supervisor' call me back. It was just the wrong day to try it on - I really am not in the best of moods - heaven help the next person who cold calls me today.
I really hate folk who try and bamboozle me. I'm a technodiot , to a degree a technophobe BUT I do know when my pooter is clean , and I DO know the difference between Virii and malware . I'm careful , never open attachments from folk I don't know, and take what precautions I can

Jo gets very upset with me because I never swear at them or slam the phone down - the sport of telebaiting is one of my favourites and wastes lots of their time and phone bill and I usually manage to be doing something reasonably useful at the same time.

But 4th July is a celebration, by them, of independance, of them, from us.Actually they were still British at the time! They only became Americans after the war
Why should we celebrate. I've not heard of the French celebrating Trafalgar Day (then again neithe do we)
Well done Tony/TT, if enough people did the same it would cost the scammers more than they 'earn'.
When I suspect my PC has a problem I talk (face to face) with a local guru and/or contact my AV/Firewall provider and let them loose on my PC, after all thats what I pay for when I renew the package.

We used to celebrate Trafalgar Day. A big bonfife and fireworks display near the foot of Collingwood's Monument. It was like having two guy Fawkes nights close together. Of course this didn't satify the yob element who decided that throwing fireworks into the crowd was a spiffing idea. Obviously the celebration was stopped.

My PC is looked after by a mate in London using Logmein - though I was very proud of myself in May - I actually booted the beast up [ can manage that without problems ] and renewed it's AV !! I really was brave - normally I never touch it - it's for daughter #1 and her son when they come to stay and is always very very carefully gone through once they have gone South again . We were impressed the first time grandson was up on his own and allowed free use of it with no supervision - no dodgy Sites viewed , and no nasties found - My Mate [ actually my GodPapa almost half my age ] really went through it on that occasion . Could it have been clean 'cos he was warned that for every toolbar we found on the machine he would lose a finger sans use of anaesthetic ?

Just enjoying some Edinburgh weather. Got off the bus in town in blazing sunshine. Fifteen seconds later and it was torrential rain. Five minutes later and we have sunshine again. Got to love this town!

I'm never polite to those callers I'm afraid. I usually just hang up. If they ring again I am rude to them. If they ring again I just leave the phone off the hook and walk away.
Lots of sun this afternoon and hot! we are due to pay for it with thunderstorms though.
I just hope the weather settles down, and is fine for next week. Middle son is off on a camping holiday with the kids next week, somewhere in Holland. His mother-in-law has been seriously ill while on holiday in Austria and is being ambulanced back to arrive here on Friday, (she has had a lung problem so isn't allowed to fly, thank goodness for travel insurance!).
Instead of going straight off, and to France as they had planned, they are going after the weekend and staying in Holland.

Tell them you use an RM-Nimbus and you only really work in DOS so you really don't have a problem...
I've never had one of these calls! What companies are ringing? Is this a recent scam?

I think they specifically target people of a certain age group who they believe might be less computer literate! The problem is that if you just act stupid you might end up on a "suckers' list" and they sell your details on to other companies!

Oddly enough they just called me again. I told them to F off and hung up as soon as I realised what they were on about - about three seconds into the call.
The number was withheld and came up as out of area. Since my brother occasionally calls me and it comes up the same I answered it. Next time it can go to the answer machine and if it's my brother I'll call him back.
Or maybe if there is a next time I'll try Dutch.

Just out of curiosity :-
Why are radio stations celebrating 4th July.
Don't they realise - We lost to the Americans.
