Just outside Edinburgh is Traquair House. It was lived in until very recently, and is well worth a visit.
If you have any energy left after storming the castle, work it off by climbing Arthur's Seat, which on a nice day will give you great views over the city. It's a good place to try a panorama shot.

Iv`e heard of the castle got a big noisy gun I think!!!!I have a few days to fill while the boss is at a conference in the city. I don`t know Edinburgh at all but i note a couple of laddies on the forum hail from the place. Oh I don`t mind walking as long as I find a nice tea shop near the destination. I`m trying not to sound too serious on this or I might affect the "Pointless thread" image that many of us have come to know and enjoy. There wouldn`t be a shop purveying intersting items of a photographic nature BTW?

I have heard that the Sergent at Arms who administers the firing of the gun takes the time from a clock outside a jewellers that is visible through binoculars from the gunnery balcony.Iv`e heard of the castle got a big noisy gun I think!!!!
The jeweller sets the time when he hears the noonday gun
But this could all be myth, just like the wee haggis.

Just had a pleasant hour on the prom at New Brighton - slightly breezy { the kite fliers were happy }lots of thin sunshine and dry.Used the *istD with 100mm Macro Tak f4 - keep forgetting it`s not auto focus !!!
The funfair is running so munchkins will be happy for their visit next weekend.
Cyril and his brother Cyril and their cousin Cyril are noticeable now the weather has improved - nuts being scoffed frenziedly.
Explosion of daffodils any day now methinks - crocuses already out in blue and yellow.

Royal Yacht Britannia, just down the hill at Leith. If you like that sort of thing?

I wonder if I used to show up on the Humber chart when sneaking in from the amathyst gas field to get in phone range. We used to monitor any ships in the area approaching the platforms and with all the ID systems there was no hiding place .

If you like architecture as well as history the walk down the Royal Mile from The Castle to Holyrood is a joy. There's lots of historic buildings including old tenements and narrow alleyways which reek of dark doings in days gone by.
At Holyrood there's the Royal Palace and the fascinatingly expensive Parliament Building. Worth photographing if you like modern architecture.
Over on the other side of the city, across Princes Street Gardens and Waverley Station there's the New Town. Its at least 200 years old and has fine Georgian terraces.
But the real fun would trying to find Edinburghs' elusive tramway system which is threatening to become as expensive as the Parliament Building.
Have fun in Auld Reekie.

Aha foiled. Tea in our house is code!!!!!!!!!!!!! No not really but I am hoping to meet up with a quite recently found sister for a dram or two. That, as they say, is another story. I had forgotten about Britannia though.

The Forth Bridge (which I personally think is far more impressive than the Eiffel Tower) no longer has scaffolding so is worth seeing and always worth photographing.Holiday season starts in March with a trip to Edinburgh for a week. If you have a car there are some wonderful castles in the area, Tantallon being my personal favorite.
And there is lots of wonderful architecture.

Thanks everyone, glad to hear that the scaffold is down on the bridge, bet they start the repaint before the middle of March though. Tantallon sounds good too, refreshments always lead me astray. Time to fetch out the maps!

No more reapainting for the next 20 years, if the paint performs as expected!
